Causing Offence: Rainsy in more hot water for criticising the Deleted

Featured Replies

The Ministry of Justice is looking into taking legal action against Sam Rainsy for insulting Deleted Norodom Sihamoni for his remark about the role of the Deleted in the Supreme Council of Magistracy (SCM). The reaction from the ministry comes after Rainsy, the former opposition leader of the court-dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), on Sunday posted a message on his official Facebook page along with a video clip criticising the Deleted. In the message, he called for an overhaul of Cambodia’s current justice system.

“As he is either unwilling or unable to ensure the independence of the judiciary, the Deleted should resign from his position as Chair of the Supreme Council of the Magistracy, whose duty is precisely to ensure the proper functioning of the justice system in Cambodia,” Rainsy said.

He also criticised the judicial system as being a “tool” for powerful people, used to mistreat the poor and the weak. Ministry of Justice spokesman Chin Malin said yesterday the judiciary is studying legal procedures before taking action against Rainsy.

Yes, it should be Deleted.

Are things that bad already? Can't you even refer to the Deleteds of other countries by their title anymore?

It's fear. Fear of defamation. The authorities win. Can refer to the Queen but not the Deleted.

And so it starts. The Deleted, then the queen, then the princes and princesses. Soon it will be anything to do with the PM, then the government then the army. Ah, I'll get deleted as I'm commenting on policy....
