Dear all,

I am sorry if this topic has alredy been tackled. I looked into the search toll and did not find something, I apologize.

I am French and my wife is Mexican. Next year, I' ll get my work visa in Bangkok  to work there (non-immigrant B).

i) What is the procedure for my wife to obtain the dependent visa, Non-Immigrant “O” Visa ?

ii) Can she do it from Bangkok by switching from a tourist visa to a dependent visa?

Thank you very much.

A dependent visa or extension does not exist. The correct title is a non-o visa and extension of stay for being a family member that has a extension of stay the qualifies for them to have one.

A non immigrant visa (category O) can be applied for at immigration with a visa exempt or tourist visa entry for a family member of a person that has extension of stay based upon working. Requirements are here.

Then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa a extension of stay can be applied for based upon being a family member to the person on an extension of stay.

Thanks a lot for this. Sorry for asking these basic questions: i) regarding my non-immigrant B visa,  can I applyfor for it by switching from tourist to immigrant B? ii) Once I have the 90 days non-immigrant B visa, in order to request the 1-year non-immigrant B visa, shall I wait until it expires or may I request it any time during the 90 days? iii) How many time does it take to have a) the 90 days non-immigrant B visa, b) the 1-year non-immigrant B visa?

With supporting documents from an employer non immigrant visa (category B ) entry. It has to be done with at least 15 days remaining on your entry from a visa exempt or tourist visa entry.

You  cannot apply for a one year non-b visa at immigration. You would apply for a one year extension of stay based upon working for a company during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa.

The 90 day non immigrant visa would normally be issued within 15 days of applying for it.

The one extension of stay application would normally requires approval at the division level and you would get a under consideration stamp with a 30 day report back date 30 days from the day you apply.

Thanks a lot for your detailed reply! Regarding both the 90 days and the one year extension of stay based upon working, who shall present these requests to the Migration Office? Can it be myself? Or it has to be the employer?

You have to do it yourself at immigration but your employer might have somebody to assist you with the applications.
