PM Prayut directs agencies to be prepared for US policy changes

BANGKOK (NNT) - With the long-standing ties of friendship between Thailand and the United States, dating back more than 200 years, Thailand’s Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, sent a congratulatory message to the US President-elect, Joe Biden, even though the official results of the US presidential election have not yet been released. The Prime Minister has instructed relevant agencies to prepare for policy changes.

In the message, Gen. Prayut congratulated the US President-elect. The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare for discussions with the new US administration. Relevant agencies have to prepare for policy changes to maintain regional balance. Thailand, as well as other ASEAN members, will have to make adjustments and be prepared.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister, Jurin Laksanawisit, said Thailand’s export strategy has been fine-tuned. Once Mr. Biden is officially sworn in, the trade war between the US and China is expected to remain, but the situation may improve. The US Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and trade measures are also expected to ease.

Some key changes are likely to include the US focusing more on multilateral trade, while the mechanisms of the World Trade Organization (WHO) will play a more prominent role.

Trade outlook is positive, as trade rules might become more lenient in the Biden administration. Global trade may become more flexible, stimulating Thai exports. Thailand may have more opportunities to ship raw materials to China, and they will be used for production of US goods.

The Ministry of Commerce is continuing to work closely with the private sector, under the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce.

Wow, just waiting for the handouts to begin to help bail out the country.  Gotta love being a little forward in their thinking and hoping.  Nothing says we depend on the US more than this statement itself:

For sure.  Give Hunter a call.   He can set something up.  He's a smart guy.

Well Mr Biden will become president, when the whining and crying Trump, lets go

of the White house and moves back to his cave, or gold encrusted place. Seems like

he is the sore loser that he warned us about.

Geezer

So Thailand hopes it can continue to screw products with tariffs & luxury taxes coming into Thailand while it enjoys favourtism exporting goods overseas.

The pedo will favor Asia lol. What a rigged election. I wouldn't count on any change just yet.

Per the constitution, Biden is not yet President elect.

Hoping Biden will link monetary aid to better treatment for Americans. They need to recognize those that benefit the economy, rather than draining money OUT of it. Ditto for the Brits and Europeans.

Got to get some money in first. They are way over GDP in debt.
