World Meteorological Organization
Tropical Cyclone Naming

For contributed list of names and usage please see the section titled:

    Tropical Cyclone Names Worldwide

Western North Pacific and the South China Sea Names                                                                 V

The Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre (RSMC) Tokyo - Typhoon Centre will assign a tropical cyclone a name from the list followed by a 4-digit identification number (in brackets). Names on the list will only be given to tropical cyclones of tropical storm strength or above.

These names are used sequentially. That is, if the last storm of the year is Cimaron, the first storm of the next year is Jebi.

Typhoon (TY) 25W (Vamco), located approximately 145 nm northwest of Da Nang,Vietnam, has tracked west-northwestward at 15 knots over the past six hours. Composite radar loop and numerous surface wind observations including those from Vinh, Dong Hoi, and Savannakhet airport indicate TY 25W has made landfall. The rugged terrain of Indochina peninsula plus the entrainment of cool dry continental air will rapidly erode the system as it drags further inland across central Vietnam and central Laos, leading to dissipation by tau 24 as it enters Thailand. This is the final warning on this system by the joint typhoon wrncen pearl harbor hi. the system will be closely monitored for signs of regeneration.//
