BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister said today that Thailand is ready to join the 37th ASEAN Summit this week, expecting the success of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiations at this event.

Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha disclosed that the Cabinet in today’s meeting discussed Thailand preparations to join the 37th ASEAN Summit, which will be taking place virtually this week on 12-15 November.

The 37th ASEAN Summit and related meetings will be held in a video conference format this year, with Vietnam as the host, and will include meetings between ASEAN leaders and leaders of partner countries such as China, India, and Australia.

The Prime Minister said he expects the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiations will be successful this year, with progress already made on some topics since last year’s ASEAN Summit hosted by Thailand.

He said the Thai government has since before the COVID-19 pandemic, facilitated meetings such as the G20 and APEC meetings, and has received support from other countries for this country’s role in promoting mutual development.

The Prime Minister then elaborated on the Wellness Quarantine program, insisting that the program still requires additional measures to be considered by the Center for COVID-19 situation administration.

In the Wellness Quarantine program, visitors to Thailand will have more options in the choice of their quarantine facility, including a closed-off golf club and more hotels. The government expects this program will help stimulate the economy.
