I already had an extension approved until November 30th but they said that this 60 day extension that I applied for today was counted from November 1st. I told them that I thought extensions were applied from the end date of the current stay on the visa and that this 60 day extension should end on January 29th since I'm already approved until November 30th but I was given the same explanation.

In addition to the usual paperwork I was asked to provide a letter from my embassy (US) and a ticket out of the country for when my visa ends. I explained that the US embassy issued an announcement saying they're no longer giving letters because the Thai Immigration Bureau said they would not require a letter. I gave them a printed copy of that announcement from the US embassy site and that was enough proof.

I was also told that I would have to interview to explain why I wanted a 60 day extension but I didn't have to do that.

The rest was regular processing with the usual 1,900 Baht fee. I should have used an agency this time.

This is the 2nd report I've heard from that Chiang Mai is only giving 30 days.  Better to go to Bangkok and get 60 days.

I think a trip to Bangkok is worth it for a 60 day extension until the end of January.
