BANGKOK (NNT) - During the current virtual ASEAN Summit, the Prime Minister has emphasized the strategic relationship between the United States and ASEAN, urging both ASEAN and the U.S. to continue developing concrete cooperation for a sustainable future.

Leaders and representatives from 10 ASEAN countries plus the United States National Security Advisor Robert C. O’Brien convened via video conference for the 8th ASEAN-United States Summit, held this year as part of the 37th ASEAN Summit.

The U.S. National Security Advisor emphasized the necessity of supply chain connectivity amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, along with disease control cooperation, and training of personnel, while stressing that the United States is willing to continue supporting ASEAN in various respects.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said the U.S. has always been a comprehensive strategic partner of ASEAN, pointing out that the constructive role of the U.S. helps promote ASEAN’s centrality and unity, while the trust between countries will lead to economic recovery and enhance the strength of the region.

Following the meeting was the ASEAN - New Zealand Summit, in the year of the 45th anniversary of ASEAN - New Zealand relations.

In this virtual summit, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern stressed New Zealand’s cooperation with ASEAN as an international partner with 45 years of good relations, while mentioning economic cooperation and preparedness for new challenges.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said in the virtual meeting he believes New Zealand and ASEAN will continue to enjoy close and stable relations, even while the countries continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said ASEAN and New Zealand will pass through this crisis together with public health and human security cooperation, and help each other in economic recovery through the use of ASEAN funds and other mechanisms led by both sides.

Was this what it sounds like? A video meeting checklist, where officials from non-Asean countries logon to zoom or whatever for a few minutes, voice some platitudes, and get some platitudes from the Asean members in return? And then, somebody says, "next?"

If hot air was noise, you eardrums would burst.  It was a lot of talk about very little of substance.

Careful now, you'll upset Emperor Xi Jinping!

So now USD near 52-week low on the Baht.  Yet USD unchanged vs Vietnam Dong.  Who do you think will export more?

Oh you mean China? But of course we can eat our cake and have it! We've been practising since 1941.

In US end,  does Trump bother to listen ?  Does Biden write down this message on his notebook ?

The former is of course not in the mood and the latter is way too busy at this time.
