Well this election has broken the mould then. Biden won fair and square and isn't making a fuss about Trump not conceding and withholding the transition package. Trump is still screaming and stamping his feet, trying every dirty trick in the book and claiming that he won. Only one "right" and one "wrong" on this occasion.

US is now in a situation whereby the Republicans have deepened the division that was started by Newt Gingrich in undermining democratic norms and hastened political polarization and partisanship. Trump simply culminate the progression and make it worse. Mitch McConnell is the political predator and thrive on party partisanship to keep his job. Obama tried to mediate the toxic power partisanship by having some of Bush’s men in his administration and try to bring the GOPs senators to some bipartisan bills. Seem it didn’t work. Biden seem the man with the right temperament to try again while Trump keep sabotaging any hope of a chance to get parties to work for the people rather than to their party and himself. I see not much hope in US democracy.

I agree with your statement and attitude in the recount topic at hand. It's not right that many on this forum denigrate you simply because you are a Trump supporter. Your assertion is correct in that a recount is fair, and in this case mandated by State law, regardless of trump's wishes. It is a process the citizens of Georgia have judged correct and codified into law. 

 

I must admit that I've made an effort to understand the principal tenets of Trump supporters as a group and have failed. I think that many voted for him because they felt disaffected and ignored by government in general, including the republican party. Clearly they are correct on a shameful scale for a country like America. 

 

Truthfully I have felt the same for many years. In my case I am fortunate that I have been able to support a good lifestyle while working and in retirement. But I did it under my own power by starting and running my own small business successfully, not because I was helped by the government. Many others have not had that good fortune. 

 

That said the major disconnect I cannot reconcile is trump's actual performance in office, setting aside his crass immorality, bigotry, soulless personality, blatantly criminal actions and shameless nepotism. I fail to see how any of his supporters can believe that, after four years, he has aided their plight or improved their opportunities, much less delivered on his grandiose pre-election promises.

 

He has made it clear that he despises 'little' people and considers them worthless 'losers', in his eyes the worst fate a human can suffer. There is a certain poetic justice in his monumental  and historic failure in the election. If there is such a thing, this is indeed Karma. 

 

However, what demonstrates beyond any doubt that he is the ultimate loser is the way that he resists admitting defeat and his attempts to undermine the very foundation of our democratic system. His actions crystallize his 'Loser' status not only as a politician and businessman, but as a human being.

 

Historians will record all of these failures and he will become an archetype of dangerous politicians for generations to come. In that capacity if no other he has served the country, and even the world.

This division regarding the election isn't between Democrats and Republicans but between Trump and reality. The election result has been accepted by most but Republicans are staying quiet because of Trump's power over the Republican masses.  

The only division about the result  is coming from Trump tweets and Rudy Guiliani and his cohorts going into conspiracy after conspiracy. It even has Tucker Carlson backing off. When he backs off you know you are in super crazy territory.

I get why you might have liked him at one point but surely it's obvious by his behaviour that he's an appalling loser in every way. Get off the Trump train and join the Biden express.

It was not a waste. It was a good investment because it served to prove beyond any Reasonable doubt that the original count was valid. 

The waste is that many Trump supporters will still contest it; but that's on them.
