Popular Post webfact
Tourism revenue in 2023 expected to reach 80% of 2019 By THE NATION The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) expects revenue in 2023 to reach 80 per cent of what was achieved in 2019. Revenue earned from the tourism sector will be Bt2.5 trillion in 2023, under the plan to revive the sector in 2022 and 2023. TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said the Bt2.5 trillion in 2023 would amount to 80 per cent of the Bt3 trillion Thailand earned from tourism in 2019. In 2021, the TAT aimed to encourage people to travel. The governor explained that his organisation would encourage numerous companies to hold more travel seminars. However, Yuthasak said that the sector's recovery next year would be slow. He said 2021 would be the year to increase confidence among entrepreneurs and tourists. He predicted that the first foreign groups to return to Thailand in 2021 would be Europeans, in case a Covid-19 vaccine was confirmed as successful. He added that China had not allowed its citizens to travel on group tours, until a vaccine is ready. “This is what Chinese representatives told the Minister of Tourism and Sports on Wednesday,” he said. He added that the tourism sector would still be an important factor in driving Thailand’s economy. The proportion of earnings generated by the sector would be 20 per cent of the gross domestic product, like in the times before Covid-19, he said. Popular Post ExpatOilWorker
2020 is pretty much a write-off with about 20% of the 2019 revenue. The most pressing question is how will 2021 be? Different agencies have projected 8-11 million tourists, so it could be 20-25% of 2019 levels. Meager years ahead for the tourist industry, but good deals should be plentiful for us local travelers.

He didn't have anyone read his tea leaves because he is obviously a time traveler, who has been and returned. It is where TAT has obviously been getting all of their great Ideas from, as well as watching all of the reality television show reruns such as 90 day fiancé. 1

Popular Post Guderian
Not many people seem to have noticed, but the green revolution has been gaining traction and momentum during the pandemic. Two obvious examples are the US rejoining the Paris Accord which will happen early next year when President Biden takes office, and the UK's latest legally-binding commitment to cut emissions further and faster than previously planned. Coupled with the dire implications that recovery from the pandemic will have for many peoples' finances, especially the young, there may be less travel in the coming years than expected based on past trends, and possibly a lot less. I'm not joking here, when I read the details of the UK's latest plans and their implications, it seemed to me that within 30 years the unwritten master plan is that most people will live, work and die within 10 or 20 miles of where they were born. Of course, you'll still be allowed to fly off to foreign lands for a holiday, but such jaunts will start to come with some serious strings attached, like they'll have to fit into your personal annual carbon allowance, and anyway they'll almost certainly be stigmatised as socially unacceptable. Never mind back to the future, this is back to the 18th century if it happens, lol! 6 1 1

ChrisKC
I am sure that it is almost impossible to predict anything in a statistically meaningful way. If there was a downward trend with a long enough time span that seemed to show covid 19 was being managed in most countries impacting on any level of large scale tourism, yes, maybe! But the truth is as we write here, covid is in a very angry mood surging and ravaging its way with little light at the end of that tunnel.

Popular Post spidermike007
Talk about a shot in the dark. Supasorn is taking a wild guess. This is based on absolutely nothing. It is impossible to make a prediction like this. There are so many variables. The longer they wait, the harder it will be to restore the industry. People have short memories. Thailand was already being forgotten by millions, before Covid, due to a dozen reasons. Now? Too many alternatives. This administration continues to see Thailand as the COTU (center of the universe). Say it ain't so! No humility seem to be getting learned as of now. The army needs to figure out a way to muster up some courage, and re-open the nation to tourism. There are many ways it can be done safely, and there will be some risk, but nothing like the risk of not opening, and remaining sealed off from the world, like early 19th century Japan. Not even close. Plus, you have to factor in: how people will feel about long haul travel in three years? How will the economic shutdown, and malaise effect their long term fortunes? Is Thailand making any effort, on any level to address the issues that were present, pre-Covid? Traffic and public safety, air quality, road congestion, luxury taxes, wine taxes, jet ski scams? I could go on all day. My guess is nothing is being done to address anything, and every issue they currently face is being blamed on Covid. Now, they have a real scapegoat, and looking within for the source of any of the problems is less likely than ever. 4

What about employment, the pandemic was perfect for a lot of companies to be able to lay off workforces that countries otherwise couldn't do without big payouts or employee protection laws. Those companies will have to slowly build their businesses back up while governments carry the welfare loads. I can't see people travelling unless they have steady employment and on good salaries, that said, if you haven't already taken advantage of or seen there are 5 star hotels offering rooms with the like such as the Hilton for around $100 AUS (2,100 baht) a night at either Hua Hin 42 square metre refurbished twin room with seaview and double fold out sofa for 4 people, breakfast included, Phuket also offering some great bargains during the peak season, so why not take advantage of that and add that to your bucket list before the pandemic is over. Tourism in Thailand will take 5 - 10 years to recover to its peak IMO because there are a lot of other factors to take into consideration as well, to mention there will be fierce competition around the globe to get tourist back and last I checked, Thai's don't like to be competitive if it means it's costing them money. 1
