Bangkok's Mahakan Fort has been converted into a flower garden, covering an area of 4 rai (0.64 hectare) and 300 square metres.

The spectacular flower show is open for visitors for about 45 days, until the beginning of January 2021.

The flower show is a New Year's gift to the city people from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).

A total of 57,700 plants suitable for the climate of Bangkok are on display. They include zinnia, Celosia, French marigold, Cosmos, periwinkle, orchids, etc, in visually appealing patterns.

Bangkok Governor Asawin Kwanmuang said on Sunday that the park was a gift to the people of Bangkok. The flower fields are open to the public without fee from 5am to 3pm every day.

The governor also invited people to visit the Ong Ang Canal Walking Street to stop by and taste the delicious food, shop for products, listen to music and watch the hat-trick show. The highlight is the kayaking or SUP (Stand Up Paddle) board activities; the BMA is providing kayaks for the public to borrow for free, including life jacket and staff to facilitate and assist the activity. People can visit the Ong Ang Canal Walking Street from Friday to Sunday from 4pm to 10pm.

Asawin added that the BMA aims to make the 1,682 canals in the Bangkok area clean, safe and beautiful, and also aims to develop transport routes, ecotourism, and historical areas around Rattanakosin Island to stimulate the economy and improve the quality of life of the people.

“The development of the canal will require cooperation from all sectors, including government agencies, the private sector, including residents who live near canals and tourists. He urged people to help maintain cleanliness, by not throwing garbage, food waste, sewage, oil stains or other wastewater into the canals to make every canal in Bangkok clean and beautiful sustainably.
