Many people get ten to fifteen years of heavy drinking before it catches up to them. I was at the stage where I was having a couple of drinks BEFORE going to the party but because of a job physical, went to a New Years party and drank nothing all night. Probably the only night I didn't drink for years.

I was shocked at what a good time I had. I was also shocked at what a good time I have all the time now that I am sober and don't have to pay the price of hangovers for it.

There are many people who go to bars, clubs and pool halls and drink non-alcoholic drinks. Only those who are a long way down the trip to alcoholism make mention of it and the establishments love you because they charge you bar prices for your inexpensive soft drink.

It is not suggested that you go to establishments that serve alcohol during your early years of sobriety as the temptation may be your downfall.

Your body will be so thankful when it is free of alcohol poisoning that you will feel great!! Likewise as your mind clears, you will enjoy great exhiliration in many cases.

From the sound of things,

Go to an AA meeting, and while there ,get yourself a Big Book,or at least read chapter 3, remember what it says and do exactly as it says, the book was written in 1939 and has helped thousands of people maintain a sober, productive life.

AA ain't for everyone, only the ones that are serious about sobriety. Some people fail numerous times, but keep coming back and eventually they make it.

The Puritanical tried once to ban alcohol on a national level and succeeded, a little thing called the Prohibition.

Of course it failed miserably, and is generally accepted as the genesis of organized crime.

Moderation in all things, all things in moderation, a cold beer on a Friday night is a creature comfort I don't ever want to lose ... beer(pouring%20in%20mug)a.gif
