An investigation into corruption at Thai Airways International (THAI), which started in August, has revealed that 20 people were involved in possible graft that resulted in massive losses to the airline, said Pol Lt-General Saroj Nimjaroen, deputy head of the commission probing internal administration at THAI.

The commission will meet with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on December 14 to provide additional information regarding the investigation into the possible corruption, he said.

“We had earlier submitted investigation details to Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Finance Ministry, which is THAI’s major shareholder, and the NACC president, who subsequently contacted Deputy Transport Minister Thaworn Senneam to submit additional documents relating to the investigation,” Saroj said.

“The investigation has so far revealed that there are 20 persons who were involved in corruption at THAI in six different aspects. For example, the commission found that the mechanics department had disbursed more than Bt6 million to 567 staff as overtime pay for 1,500 hours [of extra work] per year,” he said. “This will require further investigation into the reason and necessity of disbursing such a large amount as overtime pay.”

Saroj also said that in the meeting with the NACC on December 14, he would submit the list of persons suspected of being involved in corruption at THAI, as well as a record of complaints that have been filed in court or at related agencies regarding the suspected misconduct of the 20.

Are they all Generals?, or just the corporate officials.  They will be low hanging fruit unfortunately I think.  Thrown to the wolves for appeasement.

  • Is this meant to be a joke? Possible corruption, ha,ha, what a laugh, bet all those found guilty will be low ranking members of staff.

That is only 10k bht overtime per year for each mechanic so nothing extraordinary at all.

Thai lost billions upon billions of baht through corruption, one can only wonder why they're reporting on what seems perfectly normal expenses.

Have they checked the donut bakers for possible corruption, after all, they're the ones making all the profit for the company.

A couple of mechanics will probably take the fall. Of course they didn't come up with the scheme or execute it, but they probably did have to kick-bakc the bulk of the excess OT pay.

Meanwhile Rolls Royce - TG bribery scheme? How's that investigation going?

This is unfortunately worded. There was a report a few months ago (it's on TV also, got to search for it) that actually said that EACH of the 567 staff allegedly clocked up 1,500 hour OT per year and EACH of them was allegedly paid Bt6 million OT compensation for that. Puts everything in a quite different perspective, huh?

What? Only 20?

I also wonder if there is going to be an investigation into people OUTSIDE of Thai Airways, who also had their hand in the till because they felt entitled to do so.

SOP worldwide, arrest someone low on the pecking order as a ritual sacrifice, then then real crooks get to keep their loot.

4,000 baht an hour.

Or was it 2,000 baht plus 2,000 paid back up to people that sign off on it?

There was a story on this forum a year or so ago how elites were getting free maintenance and fuel for their private jets at THAI.  Not sure if this will be part of that, but one can be made an easy escape goat for the sake of face of an elitist family.

''Possible'' corruption ????????????????????

Will those suspects be named like in the 'Red Bull' case?

No, I don't think so.

Should start at the top

25 on the list to start with but 5 khun have settled

I suspect they have lost at least 3 zeros off that figure, possibly the Thai tourist board has borrowed them ????

Dude, this is Thailand. Someone found to be free of corruption would be newsworthy.

Who believes a mechanic got paid 16 million baht? Not me. Not to mention the fact that 16 million baht is a drop in the bucket when compared to the hundreds of millions USD that THAI has lost.

Pah  Ill save you a  <deleted> load of time........the whole country is  corrupt

The whole operation was run for benefits of certain individuals.

I'm sure the corruption was deep rooted.

Throw the stones up and see which fall!

Corruption in Thailand? Surely not.
