Health Minister Confirms COVID Control

BANGKOK, Dec 3 (TNA) — Deputy Prime Minister/Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the new COVID-19 situation was under control and there had not been the second wave of the disease but more measures to ease lockdowns must be delayed.

He was responding to concerns resulting from 10 COVID-infected Thai women who returned from work in Myanmar’s Tachileik border town opposite Chiang Rai province, dodged quarantine at the border and traveled inside the country.

“The present situation is controllable and it is not the second wave. Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai do not need a lockdown. Transmission has been contained but the time for lockdown easing must be put off pending evaluation of situations in border areas,” Mr Anutin said.

Health authorities expressed confidence today that the Covid-19 situation in the northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are under control despite the recent return of 10 Thais from neighbouring Myanmar who tested positive.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, meanwhile, played down fears that there could be a second wave of the pandemic. However, a medical expert warned that the country needs to be put on high alert for a potential second wave of the pandemic following what happened in the two provinces.

Speaking at a press conference, Dr Kiatiphume Wongrajit, the permanent secretary of the Public Health Ministry, said local health officials had all necessary information regarding the returnees’ whereabouts and timelines of their movement.

I for one don't believe you for one minute, Minister and I'm sure there are plenty of others too! You can fool some of the people some of the time but.......................................................!

Reminds me of the daft statements years ago when they said Thailand would be free of drugs in ten days.

Amazing sweeping statements that just only the mentally challenged would believe.

The wise one has spoken

Just too many arrivals coming back infected.....test before flying seems to be a non event in many countries.

... well yes, apparently if the airline per se doesn't insist & if you're Thai you're still getting on the plane untested.

Insane? You bet!

Being cynical, I'm guessing that photo of A-nut-in here has the mask photo shopped on? I've hardly seen him wearing one before.

As usual it looks pristine.  It has never been in his back pocket for everyday use!

These infected people are not flying but sneaking over the porous Thai borders from neighbouring countries, notably Myanmar where Covid-19 is rampant.

He's actually wearing a mask.. this must be more serious than they're letting on.

Prayut saying he would end corruption Lol.

What else would you expect anyone to say?

At least he admitted there is a "Covid-19 situation", and that is requires "control".

Hopefully they are monitoring the movements and contacts for those that made it to other parts of Thailand.

It's what he didn't say: After ending the current corruption, he and his DIY government would start their own wave.

Anutin must be worried for his own Health, as he is actually wearing a Face Mask

'Thick' is a nice way to describe these guys. I think a proper word to describe this lot is still being coined.

Meanwhile, Anutin can share laurels with his Malaysian counterpart. At the start of the second wave in Malaysia, their health minister said - publicly - that drinking warm water will help kill the virus. Or something like that. And this guy is apparently a real doctor with an actual practice!

I am not kidding - check this out. He's now known as the 'Warm Water Minister'. Of course, as in most SEA countries, ministers get to keep their jobs despite being proven stupid beyond reasonable doubt:

I remember when  Prayut came to Chiang Mai to resolve definitely and once and for all the problem of pollution in 7 days ... same days God created the world..

You mean you think he could be worse than the present "PM"?? No soldier has the education to run a country whether it's the "Public Health" minister or the unelected "PM" himself.

That will not catch everyone. Catch it on the plane or in quarantine. Pre flight test does not help.

One Australia state just announced it's first domestic case in 29(?) days. A cleaner at a quarantine hotel.
