Thailand, Germany Extend Railway Cooperation

BANGKOK, Dec 4 (TNA) — The Ministry of Transport of Thailand and Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure signed an agreement to extend their railway cooperation covering railway research, human resources development and technology transfers.

The extension concerns the countries’ joint declaration of intent (JDI) on further cooperation in the development of railways. The cooperation was aimed at developing Thailand to be a base of railway-related production, maintenance and knowledge.

Meaningless.

When did Thailand ever keep any of its promises made in such "joint declarations of intent" (see full article)? Thailand even does not keep what it firmly had signed in numerous other international agreements, e.g. about issues like slave work, human rights, freedom of speech, refugees. So now, as it is about railway cooperation, is there anyone believing they will keep any promise made in this "joint declaration of intent", while at the same time they sign all contracts for high-speed rails with China exclusively, without any open tender?

Nobody can trust this government one jota. Off course, the German ambassador knows that very well, too. I appreciate that he still tries to negociate with this mafia-esque entity, though. Always good to keep a minimum of communication alive.

Well i'm always in for a new soapstory. I remember those 200 firetrucks from Austria, unpaid trains from Germany, airplanes locked on a chain....we'll see what 2021 brings.

Maybe they had a chance to talk about the Hopewell payment.

Probably not about Thais living in Germany for long periods.

"Developing Thailand to be a base" Not a hub ?

Without Germany, Thailand probably wouldn't even have a railway network. Or at elast would have acquired it much later than it actually did.

The country's first railway line connecting Bangkok and Chiang Mai was being built by the Germans while WW1 was already raging in Europe. Then, in 1917, Siam "conveniently" declared war on Germany, expropriating the line and basically getting it for free. The last stretch of track to Chiang Mai was finished by Danish engineers just after WW1.

I wonder if that would work with the Chinese when the line they're building is nearly finished?    "We declare war on China".  Splat!   ????
