BANGKOK (NNT) - Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officials have launched a check of locations considered at risk of a COVID-19 spread, including restaurants, pubs, bars and karaoke rooms in an effort to bolster traveler confidence.

Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Pol Lt Col Sophon Pisutiwong led an inspection in the Ekamai-Thong Lor area initiated under measures against the spread of COVID-19, speaking with business operators and asking for their cooperation in strictly enforcing health protocols for the safety of their patrons and staff. The inspection team handed out documents detailing seven steps of personal protection, includingwashing hands, wearing masks and using hand gels.

The Deputy Governor remarked that he saw helpful cooperation from most places he visited, with only small areas for improvement. Members of his team gave out advice but are confident Bangkok is almost 100 percent safe from the disease and that nationwide efforts to contain its spread will be successful due to integration between local bodies and the Ministry of Public Health. Pol Lt Col Sophon said it was time the public supported the effort as some gaps remain.

The check found most business operators enacting customer screening, checking temperatures and having patrons register on Thai Chana. Foreign visitors have been asked to leave their name and a contact number.

Almost 100% safe.

For sure.

Yet half the stories on Thavisa show photos of groups of people, especially conference delegates and VIPs, without a mask or any sign of social distancing. Are these guys immune?

Love that institutionally discriminatory line: 'Foreign visitors have been asked to leave their name and a contact number.'

Just image, for a couple of seconds, what the reaction would be if a media organisation in the West used such terminology?

Probably because they were warned of the visit well in advance

It's not the first time first time I've heard the statement from an employer in Thailand that "we will be getting a surprise inspection next week, so lets make sure everything is perfect"

The west really should get over their hyper sensitivity. Time to harden up. Better to be slightly offend a snowflake than to have your parents die a nasty covid death.

Millions of infections and over one million dead in the west and the pandemic raging totally out of control. People STILL refusing to put on a mask, screaming about their rights and the constitution. Dropping off like flies now.
vs

3 dead in Thailand since May.

No deaths for months in Bangkok but they are not dithering. A very proactive approach that has proved highly successful.
I hope they bring it back under control without anyone dying.

The Pooyai baan of beautiful Natai Beach was out and about today making sure everyone is masking up, shops have replenished the hand sanitizers, temperatures are being taken and the community is back on high alert.

Nobody has died here, he wants to keep his 100% success rate in tact.

No, they're just a different species.

Good Job Thailand!

Pol Lt Gen Sophon is certainly a force to be reckoned with...

It seems like only yesterday our defender of the faith was valiantly battling those 'over-priced gift basket' scallywags. And now, with barely time to change his face mask, he's turned his righteous anger on those rascally, unsanitary foreigners who conspire to defile karaoke bars with unwashed hands.

The country has nothing to fear with fearless, intrepid warriors like Pol Lt Gen Sophon leading the way forward....
