Over Bt42-bn exchanges hands under ‘Let’s Go Halves’ scheme

The government’s “Khon La Khrueng” (Let’s Go Halves) shopping subsidy has reportedly circulated more than Bt42 billion in the economy, while the Finance Ministry has confirmed that Phase 2 of the project will kick off within this week.

 

Kulaya Tantitemit, the Finance Ministry’s spokesperson, said since its launch on October 23, the scheme has resulted in the spending of Bt42.04 billion with some 968,000 stores participating.

 

Kulaya said the ministry will hold a press conference to provide detailed information on the second phase of the project and who is eligible to join.

That is Bht 700 for every single Thai person, man, woman and child. Bht 42 Billion Really?

Handy scheme in several ways . It gets citizens items or food they want cheap , it keeps the places selling them open and running so they aren’t closed or broke and it means the government look good , but are actually saving themselves money by only paying half instead of giving citizens money to get by from losing jobs etc .

The 42 billion baht has been paid by the taxpayer and the other half by the purchaser. Net gain to Thailand = zero. Net loss to Thailand = 42 billion baht.

just know a lot of businesses here (the ones not addicted to tourist money) are thriving and it's not the billionaires either, unlike the west where it seems only the rich are surviving properly. In other western locales people are only earning from direct handouts from the government because their streets are too diseased to conduct business in. Australia is one of the few that had any brains about this. This is not about 'net gain to Thailand' (looks ok anyways considering, how's you're currency doing?)  This is about stimulating an economy amongst the folks who live on 400 bt a day, ya know, the majority?

About 700 Vendors and Buyers Abuse Co-payment Scheme

 

The ministry detected the irregularities through a transaction system of Krungthai Bank and people’s complaints. It asked the police to monitor the suspects. 

 

Pol Maj Gen Maitree Chimcherd, commander of the Economic Crime Suppression Division, said the Finance Ministry filed its complaint on the matter last month and police arrested one suspect who was a vendor in Mahachai area of Samut Sakhon province.
