Pattaya: "Drunk" Brit's night out - faces DUI and fleeing accident scene charges

Ruk Siam News published full details of a British man's actions and antics after he drove his motorcycle into a parked motorcycle taxi in the early hours of this morning in Pattaya.

They said that the Brit was apparently drunk, was injured, tried to run off, was captured then proved uncooperative. He is now facing charges of DUI and fleeing the scene of an accident.

The drama started around 4.30 am when Pattaya police received a call about an accident near the entrance to Wat Nong Or on central Pattaya road. An apparently drunk foreigner on a black PCX had hit another PCX by the side of the road.

Mr Ton Leuktalay, a volunteer traffic cop, was assigned the case and he went to the area to find Surachet, 47, the motorcycle taxi guy following the foreigner who was wheeling his bike away along central Pattaya road.

He went into Soi Sanam Football in an attempt to hide his bike then vaulted over a wall.

Ton and Surachet rode round the area and found the suspect walking near the Bua Khao market in Soi Taengmo. He had a bloodied leg.

He was stopped then backup and an interpreter arrived but the suspect refused to go to the station saying he needed to speak to his Thai wife first.

She arrived but still the Brit refused to go to the station. He was cuffed and taken in.

The Thai wife tried to negotiate a compensation agreement with Surachet whose vehicle was badly damaged.

The Brit refused to comply with an alcohol test.

He was detained and now is set to face charges of drinking and driving and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Would this be the first time ever someone in Thailand is charged with fleeing the scene of an accident ?

Maybe he's just misunderstood.

Or a full weight idiot.

Fine him 250,000 Baht and persona non grata entry into passport. If EVERY farang knew the ultimate penalty would be levied you'd stamp out huge swathes of drink driving

No excuse at all that locals do it routinely

What a dangerous immature irresponsible fool.

Personally I'd fine him and give him a years ban from Thailand. Don't need people like this giving us a bad name. A years ban might make this fool act like a grown up rather than a teenager next time.

Get a grip man.

The locals are the real bad guys for DUI.

Not just the few hundred Falangs that do this.

Thais are terrible drivers and they drive drunk. Brits never do this....always sober and always drive perfectly.

Throw the book at the idiot......send him to a cell in the Bangkok Hilton and throw away the key.

Or skip going on a public binge in the first place. Another reason for social distancing and self quarantine. The following morning he probably wouldn’t remember if he got drunk at home or abroad anyway.

Random road stops would be great if the police weren't so corrupt.  Thus, the reason they've been stopped.  But yes, if done properly, they help a bunch.

i wonder if he will receive the same usual punishment thai's get in this situation........

easy to deal with in comparison to a local Thai,   just deport him and add a ban of a couple of years.

what about people that may have young children here or a mortgage to pay, car finance to pay

elderly Thai family members to pay for and take care of.

do they do what you suggest in the country you come form to foreigners ?

i'm not condoning his behavior , but come on, what you suggest is not the way to deal with it.

then they should be more responsible.  Families don't need this kind of  'role model' Father, if indeed he is one.

The farang blame shifting is an industry here at TV.
