Nantida Kaewbuasai

Former singer Nantida Kaewbuasai, who represents the Progressing Samut Prakan political group, has been unofficially named chief of Samut Prakan’s Provincial Administrative Organisation.

She is the first woman to hold this position.

Election results showed she had won 341,504 votes, over 260,000 more than independent candidate Ratchanon Thong-aram, who won 77,057 votes and Tatchai Metto from the Progressive Movement, who won 74,531 votes.

Nantida had the support of the influential Asavahame family, which has clout in the province.

"Progressing Samut Prakan political group" is the new name for one division of the Future Forward party. Any time this party makes a political gain, it represents the nation taking one small step forward. Any time the ruling party loses an election of any sort, it represents a victory to the people of Thailand.

Out with the dinosaurs, and in with the younger generation of forward thinking humans!

Does she no longer receive support from clan Asavahame?

She is being backed by Chonsawat Asavahame, former Samut Prakan municipal mayor, and Nantida’s former husband who is now a member of parliament for the ruling Palang Pracharath Party.

I actually remember her standing for parliament donkey's years ago, not long after she married Chonsawat. She put a cassette (yes, that long ago!) of specially recorded election songs through our gate. Unfortunately for her, it was an election at a time the Asavahame's had lost a lot of popularity in Samutprakan and most of the family lost out. They came back of course and I still have that cassette in mint condition wrapped in its plastic cover to this day!
