BANGKOK (NNT) - The Minister of Education has indicated the Prime Minister has empowered the office to decide on school closures, asking that it prioritize public safety.

Minister of Education, Nataphol Teepsuwan said today that at the most recent Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha gave his office full power to open and close educational institutions to prevent an outbreak of COVID-19, acknowledging that closures may have an impact on tests but stating public safety is the priority.

The meeting also discussed possible remedies to the Particulate Matter 2.5 air pollution issue, which is expected to flare up again due to a high-pressure front moving over Bangkok on December 24 and 25. Meanwhile, a meeting is to take place with relevant agencies, on measures affecting schools such as closures or timetable alterations. The Education Minister assured the community that any effect on schooling would be minimal as preparations have been made.

Ah, so they are combining all 100 thai national holidays into one block, closing the schools and taking them all in January-March - good plan

Many schools around my home area are closed this week, nakhon pathom.

I wish the children would get some x-mas holidays, they don't even get x-mas itself

surely the great  leader  should be taking  charge and ordering this  that and  the other be  done ?

Close the schools down.  Asymptomatic school children will kill us all.  Keep the all at home until they have all been vaccinated and make them all wear masks and social distance for the rest of their lives. In fact, no more close relationships.  Relationships should be outlawed as it will spread Covid.  Pregnancy should be followed by jail sentence for the parents for violating social distancing.  Only laboratory insemination should be allowed under strictly sterile conditions in the future.  No more human contact as human contact spread disease!  Jail for all who violate the 2 meter rule and fail to wear masks (except for the wealthy and connected - they are all germ free).
