Soikhaonoiken
Why don't you plunge Thais into further debt, and the loss of productivity is in no way good for the economy, what does this Government think about, other than B. S.
bdenner
Maybe the release of ThaiVisa's Calendar was a bit premature?

This is short term, low cost benefit for the Thais to use their expendable income and help support the failing tourist industry. There is a lot of wealth in bangkok and getting them to spread it around is a win win. Imo. Please don't respond with economics lesson 101....???? There is a lot of wealth in Bangkok; and the one thing that they don't do with it is spread it around!
worldexpress
Here you go. Newly published 2021 Thai holiday calendar for US expats. Edited December 27, 2020 by worldexpress
realfunster
This will only be for the government sector, and the majority of private sector will not follow suit. Thai governments have done this for years, periodically adding in ‘holidays’ for various reasons, these are typically not mandatory under Labour Law for the private sector, so are largely ignored by them and only enjoyed by civil servants. A more practical and helpful solution, which to be fair, they employed in early December, is to move existing national holidays around weekends, giving people the chance to go away for a few days and support the local tourism sector, which by my reckoning will not be seeing any significant numbers of foreign tourists for at least another 9 months. How is this good for the economy, or domestic tourism. Not really, because the only people that actually get these days off are government workers, as with virtually all 'public holidays.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_Thailand Quote Private businesses are required by the Labour Protection Act to observe at least 13 holidays per year, including National Labour Day, but may choose the other observances they follow. Therefore the only people that lose out are the actual people - Students who can't go to school and lose yet more time from their studies. People who can't go out to work because their young children are stuck at home. It's giving yourself the day of work and telling everyone else they can have it too - when it's not their decision to make.

Does this Government understand that more time off gives the workers less money to spend, or if they are to be compensated then the employer looses money. How is this good for the economy, or domestic tourism. It will undoubtedly be an issue of running up credit cards and more borrowing by people to take the time off from work. Not seeing this as a good thing. If this is important to them then just make a 4/10 work week. 4 days worked/10 hours each day with a 3 day weekend every week, as well as the Government increasing the wages it pays. May nt be good for folks needing to obtain services but isn't that the same as adding more holidays to stimulate tourism. It's for the benefit of Civil servants only... workers will have to work as normal.
