Up to date, I'm counting infections in 40 provinces, plus Bangkok Awful hard to control. It's not just the numbers. It's geographical.

OF COURSE, bars, pubs, restaurants, massage need to be shut NOW! Obviously, temp readings do nothing.

I believe govt (Prayuth!) is not acting is because the infections have, so far, been centred in young & middle-aged groups. And there have been no fatalities, nor are the hospital, yet, overwhelmed.

It's a giant MISTAKE to focus on fatalities alone. There are long-term consequences to Covid infection.

Its also about mutation.

This appears to be the Indian variant of Covid spreading in Thailand.

Nobody knows how this might mutate when it gets into Thai's............. only needs to mutate in one person and then spread and there could be a new "Thai Variant" of Covid.

Lockdown, immediately should be done.  Shut down bars and clubs and anywhere where people socialise.

The longer it goes on the bigger chance of a massive problem ahead.

Someone came across the border, porous as it is, could be a foreigner, could be a migrant worker, or it could be a Thai trying to skirt the quarantine for fear or for reprisals.  Who knows without any

  • I would think that these numbers will be the norm for the remaining days of the year now, then a surge into the New Year, and then it will be lockdown because they will not be able to control this vir

Allowing inter-provincial travel over the next 7 days could be the straw that breaks the camels back

But IMHO the government don't care what the people think or how they feel.

They don't have to care, they are not accountable to anyone.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand confirmed 121 new infections of the novel coronavirus, a senior official said on Sunday, up from the 103 cases reported earlier in the day.

Taweesin Wisanuyothin, a spokesman for the country's COVID-19 pandemic taskforce, said at a briefing that the new cases include 94 domestic transmissions and 18 in migrant workers connected to an outbreak at a seafood market in Samut Sakhon, a province southwest of Bangkok.

Infections connected to this cluster have spread to 38 provinces.

Some 36 local infections were in Rayong province linked to a gambling den, the spokesman said.

"The numbers reflect a heavier (outbreak), but we have more knowledge and capacity," he said, adding that authorities were ready to handle the increased numbers.

Eight new cases were found in state quarantine facilities, and one infection in a person coming from abroad who did not enter quarantine.

Thailand has reported a total of 6,141 cases and 60 deaths.

Maybe they realised that having such a "good" Covid record might lead to Thailand being "borders shut" for the next 2 to 3 years ?

Agree, the rise is not good. But it is a very slow rise, and still not very high, plus mainly in clusters. That is all good news, means with good tracking and tracing (and yes, Thailand has been extremely good at that), it can hopefully be contained.

They are not testing a lot, even with clusters.

Numbers roughly the same each day, are they increasing the number of daily tests or keeping it the same?

Unless they start widespread testing, this is what we’ll see.

I didn't mention testing.

What is 'what we'll see"? The poster you responded to asked whether testing has increased.

The 94 domestic cases included 18 migrant workers found positive in proactive testing.

As for cases linked to the Samut Sakhon outbreak, Bangkok found 16 new patients, two in Krabi, one in Nakhon Sawan, two (a Myanmar and a Vietnamese) in Nonthaburi, one each in Narathiwat, Pathumthani, Surin, Samut Prakarn, Khon Kaen, Saraburi, three in Ratchaburi, five in Phetchaburi, eight in Rayong, and 11 in Nakhon Pathom.

Forty cases are still under investigation to track the source of infection -- one in Bangkok, three each in Phetchaburi and Tak, two each in Nakhon Pathom and Nonthaburi, 28 in Rayong (gambling den cluster), and one in Samut Songkhram.

So far 38 provinces in Thailand have reported new cases.

Eight visitors from abroad were found positive in quarantine facilities. The new cases in quarantine facility comprised one Thai who had returned from Russia, one from Germany, two from Egypt, one Yemeni man travelled from the United Arab Emirate and three Swiss came from Sweden and Hungary.

A Myanmar driver was found positive at the border area and was deported to his country for treatment.

Meanwhile, nine patients have recovered and been discharged.

The total number of confirmed cases in Thailand increased to 6,141 (1,435 in state quarantine and 1,356 from active case finding), of whom 1,902 are in hospital and ad-hoc quarantine facilities and 4,161 have recovered and been discharged, while 60 have died.

According to Worldometer as of 10am on Sunday, the total number of confirmed cases had increased to 80.71 million (up by 451,124), 56.9 million have recovered, 22 million are active cases (105,611 in severe condition) and 1.76 million have died (up by 7,108).
