Prime Minister Hun Sen has given the thumbs-up for the re-opening of private and public schools after they were ordered to close for a month. The Premier, in his live broadcast from his residence in Takhmao city, Kandal province via the National Television yesterday morning, said that private schools can re-open effective yesterday.

However, he added that public schools can only resume physical classes on January 11. This announcement was well-received by public and private schools as well as parents and schoolchildren.

Several private school owners when contacted said they planned to open on January 4 or January 11 after the “winter break” or term break. Mr Hun Sen said that all public and private schools must work together with the Ministry of Health to develop a “New Life Path in Education” under the new normalcy to ensure that all schoolchildren study in a safe environment to protect them against COVID-19.
