2021 is started with the Ministry of Health this morning announcing it has found 12 new cases of COVID-19 among Cambodian migrant workers from Thailand, the highest number reported in one day since the December 1, bringing the total number of cases to 378. The twelve who had positive for the coronavirus are all female Cambodian workers who arrived in Cambodia from Thailand just before New Year’s Eve.

Two of them, both age 26, has crossed the border in Battambang respectively on Tuesday and Wednesday this week and is now receiving treatment at Battambang Battambang Provincial Referral Hospital after their test result came back positive.

The other ten patients, age 27 to 39, arrived in Pailin, another Kingdom’s province which border Thailand, on Wednesday and are now being treated at the province’s referral hospital. The Premier has been calling for all Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand to continue staying there, after Thailand reported a sudden outbreak of COVID-19 and one new death. He added that Thai authorities can check and treat them there, which is better than them bringing the virus into the country and facing job loss.
