My brother has recently company in Bangkok.

I believe he has a work permit - is it possible for me to also get a work permit? What will I require and what will he be required to do?

A great deal depends on the size of you brother's company and your qualifications.

1. There are strict rules about how many locals must be employed before a foreigner can be taken on.

2. The company must also show that the position that you will take cannot be filled by a local.

This is difficult, except for very specialised jobs, or senior posts.

If neither of you are married to a Thai and your brothers company is not BOI, the register capital must be 4 million Baht.

You will need a resume, medical certificate and three 5x6 cm. full-faced, bareheaded, black and white or color photographs.

Your brother will need to provide

• Certificate issued by the Commercial Registration Department showing that the organization for which the applicant is going to work, has been duly registered as a juristic person, giving the name of the managing partner and/or director, and its objectives and capital.

• A Copy of the list of shareholders of the applicant’s prospective company, certified as correct by the Commercial Registration Department.

• If the company maintains a factory, a factory license and/or license to operate a factory, renewed by the Factory Department, Ministry of Industry.

• If the company maintains a restaurant, a food license. A Bar requires an alcohol license. A hotel a hotel license.

• Copy of VAT Certificate (Phor.Phor.20)/application for VAT registration (Phor.Phor. 01)
