Sending a small tortoise to the UK

Featured Replies

Not sure if this is the right place for this post, so admin please move if necessary.

Does anyone have any knowledge of sending animals to the UK?

My eldest son is keen on tortoises and breeds them. He's after an Aldabra tortoise which grow to be huge. They aren't easy to find in the UK but he's located a seller here in Bangkok.

They don't send them abroad so he's asked me if he could have it sent to me and I send it out to him. So I am trying to find out if there are any companies who specialise in sending animals by air.

Does anyone on here know of anywhere?

I should think DHL and the big boys may well do it and maybe even Thailand Post.

Or perhaps there are specialised companies at the airport?

I imagine there may be import and export restrictions too, but not sure where to find out.

It doesn't want to be lost in the post because the cheapest you can buy is a 3 inch baby at 46,000 baht! 1f603.png?_nc_eui2=AeHijTqC0z98DABhvUutw????

have you done any research into the implications of the Aldabra Tortoise being on the Vulnerable Species lists?

being the subject of Endangered Species features in the News at times... you really need to know where you stand, as you don't want to make any mistakes, and feature in something along the lines of the likes as follows...

"Royal Thai Customs officers and their counterparts in the CITES management authority found 54 Ploughshare Tortoises Astrochelys yniphora and 21 Radiated Tortoises Astrochelys radiata, both of which are assessed as being Critically Endangered."

and there are seven (critically) Endangered varieties, meaning you could still draw attention to your self anyway, by an overzealous Official, thinking he has found himself a few Promotion brownie points ...
