And this is the headline unemployment figure. I'll see if I can track down some of the other indices that include discouraged workers when I have time.

And how could it be otherwise? Florida has a huge tourism industry. Lots of low paid service workers are out of jobs.

It's not easy to try and compare how Florida did to other states that locked down.  And the American left is hardly eating crow over this. 

 

Read this.  It's very complex with no easy answers.  Though some on the right do try.

One guy works in a Co. for 5 yrs working his way up the ladder of responsibility to make $15/hr. Starting wage jumps from $10/hr to $15/hr overnight. And you don't see any problem with that.

Miami, the most populous county in Florida, had extreme closures.  That ain't "left wing rhetoric" that's an absolute fact.

 

And guess what!  Florida has already raised the wage to $15.  Are they becoming blue?

You claimed that some states "shut down" their economies. I called that nonsensical right wing rhetoric.  Now you're trying to wriggle out of that claim by saying that they had "extreme closures". There's a huge difference between what you call "extreme closures" and shutting down.

And during the summer, when covid cases and deaths should  have plummeted, they surged in Florida. And it's hard to figure out how bad the surge is and was because the Florida State govt. has a history of concealing the data.

You're right. There is no perfect solution. But it's worse that people earning minimum wage can't make enough to survive than the possibility that some workers will feel envy and resentment should the minimum wage rise. And, if there was universal health care in the USA, as there is in most economically developed nations, that alone would make life for the working poor, as well as for the middle clases, a lot more bearable.

These arguments are SO dispiriting. If you tax businesses at a fair rate then the social programs get paid, negating that ridiculous "printing trillions" hogwash.
