Irish citizen applying for tourist visa/coe from Spain

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I'm an Irish citizen currently residing in Spain. I'm looking at going to Thailand in March, and am wondering what the process is for me?

I assume I have to apply through the Thai embassy in London?

I'm planning on flying from Madrid. Will this cause me any issues? Do I need to have my passport sent to an address in Ireland?

Many thanks.

You will do the COE application to the Thai embassy in Madrid since Spain will be the country you will be in when starting your trip to here. That is what country of origin is on the application.

The tourist visa application is going to be your biggest problem unless you are a legal resident of Spain.

Application info from the embassy website is here in Spanish.

Visa page in Spanish is here. https://madrid.thaiembassy.org/en/page/19412-visa?menu=5d7cf78c15e39c3e0400199d

You could enter visa exempt and get a 45 day entry that can be extended for 30 days at immigration.

OP just enter visa exempt. You deal with embassy in country where you are currently to arrange your COE. Many threads about that process and requirements.

I assume your <50. How long do you hope to stay in Thailand.

Hi  Jack.

Yea, I'm 48. I'll be going down the retirement route at 50, so my plan is to switch to an education visa while in Thailand. I believe that's possible now. (I've no problem paying an agent, as long as I can get 12 months or so, that will go a long way to plugging the gap till I'm 50).

So, an initial 75 day visa exemption should do. Many thanks.

Thanks Joe.

So on a visa exemption, I'll have no need to go through the Spanish embassy? Just get the COE online with all the required documents (Flight, asq, insurance, and covid test/fit to fly before departure)

Sorry Joe. Ignore post above re coe. Re-read your reply. I have to apply through Spanish embassy.

You apply at the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid. Home page of website. https://madrid.thaiembassy.org/en/index

This from the certificate of entry application website (https://coethailand.mfa.go.th/).

Another popular option is to obtain non O based on volunteering via agent. More expensive however gives you up to 15onths permission of stay. 3 months for the non O + 12 month extension. Hopefully at that time borders will be open and you can exit to obtain tourist visa or just re-enter visa exempt.

Keep in mind that "covid extensions" 60 days have just been extended and more likely will be extended again. Being 48 thinking your plan is doable.

That's good to know re: volunteering visa.
