Options to extend once in Thailand if i go on standard 30 day VOA

Featured Replies

As i understand, i am eligible for the 'visa on arrival' (maybe it's another name), for 30 days, which i believe i can extend once for another 30 days.

When i am in Thailand can i change my visa to a longer term stay? What would be my options?

Are you 50+ years of age.

You are referring to visa exempt entry. Currently 45 days to allow for quarantine.

It can be extended by 30 days.

Also there is currently '60 day covid extensions' you could obtain those..

If 50+ you could obtain a non o based on retirement.

If under 50 there is always the option of using an agent to obtain you a non o based on for example volunteering and obtain 12 month extension. Expensive.

Depends how long you wish to stay

No i am not over 50.

Yes i can extend for 30 days. But what options do i have to stay longer term - say for around 6 months ONCE IN THAILAND. I'd rather do visa works in Thailand.

No other options ?

Why not go with the STV?  90 + 90 + 90 it's like suddenly immigration forgot how to do math.

The only options have more or less been mentioned.

You could apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa at immigration to attend a school or volunteer work or for working for a company and then an extension of that 90 day permit to stay.

Joe, purely out of interest - if someone did as you say above and then got married to a Thai citizen, could they then apply for an extension on the grounds of marriage or would they have to leave and re-enter, therefore changing their visa status?

Being married to or being the parent of Thai is on the list for applying for a 90 day non-o visa.

Yes I know that but I'm asking if, having obtained a 90 day non-o for school or volunteering purposes as you suggested to the OP, if he subsequently married a Thai citizen can that visa status be changed (in country) and a 12 month extension applied for on the grounds of marriage?

The visa is a non O. The reason for applying for extension of stay can be changed. If married to Thai an extension could be applied for based on marriage. Obviously the financials and other requirements would need to be satisfied.

How much would it cost to get a 90 day O visa ? Are there companies in Bangkok that would do this for you ?

No, you have to do the visa in your local Thai embassy. There’s a list of what you need if you look it up. You must book and pay for an ASQ hotel which are listed, have 2 insurance policies, one covering Covid 19, one normal medical insurance. A certificate of Entry too.All this you do from home. I suggest you contact the Thai embassy or look it up . The visa in itself isn’t expensive.

Ps , you must also have a negative Covid test within 72 hrs of travel. Quarantine in ASQ hotel  is 14 nights, meals , nurse checking you up and further tests all included in the package. You can’t leave your room.14 nights hotel costs between 45 000Baht and a lot more. Around 1400 euros.

Sorry, normal visa STV  or other is in your own country. The non o I m not sure where.

You would get a non-ed for attending a school and non-o for volunteer work.

After getting extensions for either of those reason you could apply for a extension of stay based upon marriage.

There agents that can arrange a non-o visa. They could arrange a one for volunteer work.
