Hi, I went to Chaiyaphom  immigration yesterday. I had my new UK passport with me . Gave them my passports and they copied everything

and I signed a lot of papers and I was finished in about 1 hour. A retirement visa. And the officers were very polite and quick.

Sounds like you had visa info and current extension stamp transferred. 

No new visa involved. Cost should have been zero.
