BANGKOK, Feb 12 (Reuters) - Thailand on Friday reported 175 new coronavirus cases, taking its total infections to 24,279.

No new deaths were reported, with fatalities remaining at 80, according to the COVID-19 information centre.

but the number of recent "testing" numbers have fallen sharply from a week ago!So we don't really what the number of infections is doing, don't really want to know either. What strains have they found?

Victoria Australia has gone back into lockdown yet again after finding 13 infections of the Kent variation of the virus and what a Kent it is for the Vics.

Australian lockdown is real lockdown. Australian numbers are real numbers. Australian testing is massive compared to here.

FFF I know exactly what you mean by Kent.

The Government officials are calling it a super duper hyper light speed transmissible Kent variant with a possible 4000-5000 close contacts in a airport terminal as an infected cafe worker worked a whole shift before testing positive. The language the officials are using indicates one of two possible reasons for such language one is if the outbreak gets out of control they have an excuse for it or if they manage to control it they will say how good they are controlling a super duper hyper light speed infectious Kent variation of the virus.None the less at least we do get the straight info on exactly what's occurring.

60 new cases in Pathum Thani, which isn't even next door to Samut Sakhon. I wonder how many cases they'd find there if they started carrying out, say, 10,000 tests a day like they did in Samut Sakhon a few weeks ago? And the same goes for Bangkok province, burying your head in the sand never makes a problem go away. The whole greater Bangkok area needs to be isolated from the rest of the country until they sort out the many hubs of infection that clearly still exist there.

While I support what you say 100%, you and I both know it aint gonna happen.

Waaayyyy too much face to lose.

Doing more test will only make the number of infections go up.If you don't test people don't get infected! How good is that? That's how you come 4th for dealing with the pandemic and 104th for transparency and corruption which would be good if number 1 was the most corrupt but it isn't.

Ok. Know what you're saying. People here still call this the flu more than a year on.  I'm more referring to "a Kent of a situation" when I say I know what you're talking about. Replace the 1st consonant with the 2nd and the second vowel with the 5th.

You got the "Kent" variation spot on!

This is why the number of positives has suddenly dropped from the beginning of the Week.

Last week, there were a stated 10,000 tests per day which recorded about 800 positives ( 8% ) per Day, and this week the testing has been reduced to only 2000 per Day to save money.

Everything is pro rata and there are still 8% positives from the 2000 tests. However, the more worrying aspect is the number of " Hospital Walk ins " that are appearing in the Daily figures, which do not seem to be in clustered areas, but are more wide spread among the Communities.
