Finish job 5 years back, correctly cancelled work permit and converted to extension based on retirement, continuously extended for 12 months at a time. If have a new job possibility, it allowed to get new work permit, convert retirement extension to be based on working, without leaving country, given the original visa was a Non-Imm B; or is same as starting from scratch, and getting a brand new visa and start process outside country?

Anybody knows?

Thanks.

It could be possible to change the reason for your extension for retirement to one based upon working at immigration.

But getting the required work permit approval letter for the extension application would not possible in most cases since the DOE will not accept the application if on a retirement extension.

About the only way would be to leave and re-enter the country with a new non-b visa or enter with a tourist visa and apply at immigration for the non- b visa at immigration after getting a work permit application approval letter.

Thank you for quick response to complicated matter.  So this sound like very impossible process until travel restriction change?  I thought  maybe since original visa was Non-imm B, and not non-imm O might make this process possible in country, but I guess not?  Re. your "in most cases" comment, are there could be exceptions?

Thank you

Yes since it can depend upon the local work permit office at the DOE.
