Prime Minister Hun Sen today called on all Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand not to return to the Kingdom during the upcoming Khmer New Year, due to the current COVID-19 situation in the country. He said that the situation of COVID-19 is still on high alert.

Mr Hun Sen said this while officially announcing the “February 20 Community Incident” today, after the discovery of 32 new COVID-19 cases connected to N8 Club, Phnom Penh, located near the Olympic Stadium. He said that if Cambodian migrant workers return from Thailand during the upcoming New Year, they will not able to celebrate it because they must quarantine for 14 days.

“If the workers return from Thailand for the upcoming New Year, they will not be allowed to come straight inside, they must go to quarantine. So, they would come to Cambodia for 14 days quarantine, then go back to Thailand for 14 days. Do not come to Cambodia,” he added. According to the Ministry of Health, 5,741 people in Cambodia volunteered to have a Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccination between February 10 and 19.
