I've lived here for years and have noticed that Thailand's officialdom is not much different than my home country. Neither government has ever given me anything for free...

For all of those "farangs" that have graciously donated time and money to help feed the starving local population put out of work due to Covid-19 I think it is time to STOP! Obviously your kindness is not appreciated by the people or government of this country, so just save your money to pay for the Covid-19 vaccine. I personally have NEVER donated money for anything due to dual pricing that is allowed in this country and this is just the icing on the cake!

That's why it's important for those that can take the vacine to take it in order to protect people like your daughter. Herd immunity only comes when 70-90% of the population are inoculated, therefore protecting those that cannot be vaccinated.
Your daughter will not be forced to take a vacine she has adverse reactions to. As long as you can prove this.

Well, the adverse reaction happened in the states. I reported it to CDC via a VAERS report, but nothing was done. The law there states that you cannot sue a pharma company, so there is no avenue for a legal process. If we can get a waiver from the US doctor, how far does that get us here in Thailand? I mean, my US marriage cert or bank statements don't work here.
Hopefully, they'll loosen up a bit.

There are several nasal and oral vaccines for Covid in development.  Would she be able to take those?  So sorry to hear about her bad results from previous vaccinations.

Thanks for the suggestion and kind words. No, she won't be able to. Most vaccines (even oral) have same or similar ingredients. Honestly though, even if a doctor said she would be ok, I wouldn't let her. The doctors told us the vax that injured her would be ok.

Don't worry.

Medical exemptions are always available. I know of no country where medical exemptions aren't honored, though they're getting pretty close in California, where such exemptions are scrutinized for school entry. Other than that, no issues. Not even in China.

Secondly, the vaccines are NOT licensed for children in Thailand. Therefore, a child can't be forced to take one, no matter what the law might say about adults.

Thanks for the suggestion. She is 26 now, but had the shot when she was 13. We have to go back to the states in Oct for my older daughter's wedding, so just trying to figure this out. Good to know about the not licensed for children though.

you would not be FORCED, you would be given a choice, vaccine or leave. You may even find in your home country that its vaccine or stay out,  and later, no vaccine and therefore no travel, no hotel bookings, no  school attendance for children.

that would be the same anywhere, not just here.

Correct ,but I see an article saying free vaccination for people paying tax. I pay 15%  on money deposited in the Thai Bank. 15% of one million I would think would cover the vaccination jab. And this tax is paid every year.

You pay the tax on the principal there? I find that hard to believe.

First it was the app that I found racist. This is worse. If the economy were to go way south, I wonder who they would vote to be on the menu.. ????

If it helps, I'll be treating any thais I meet in the US with the same racism you all are being treated with there. .. or mebbe half of them.. ????

This just show the mindset on Thais. No wonder Thailand is so far behind a normal minded country. It is horrible saying at least. However, I wish all foreigners would just leave Thailand and they will see how much depended they are on foreigners. And beg for foreigners to come back ????????????

This isn't about money. It's about your soul.

Most Thais living in the UK have to pay a NHS surcharge in order to use the NHS.

Rubbish..... I personally know a Thai woman who went into our local hospital to have necessary treatment and was charged "0"....... She was shocked as she expected a massive bill as we would have in Thailand...... Even when i go home, i left 30 odd years ago, nice to see you back Mr ...... Both at the Gp's and the hospital......  Don't compare the health system in Britain to Thailand...... A bit like comparing Anutin with Bamber Gascoigne......

The NHS surcharge is paid when they apply for a Settlement visa and then again for Leave to Remain. It is compulsory so any Thai "living" in the UK with a legal visa will have paid it.

"The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is a fee levied on the majority of UK visa applications. ... Also known as the NHS surcharge, it essentially adds £624 per year per person to the cost of a UK visa, or £470 a year for children, students and Youth Mobility visas."

You still have plenty of time to sort this out but as has been suggested previously, if you have a medical exemption certificate (perhaps start working on this now with your American doctor) coupled with a certificate from a Thai doctor, I can't see how you will experience any problems.

All countries will realise that not all people will be able to be vacinated and will have special dispansation for those that can't IF you can prove your daughter is exempt.

Best of luck. I hope it all works out for you.

You may have to wait a long time .

For proof positive , if any vaccine works ...

Not really - the first 'real world' data was just published in the UK and Israel, of the results of millions of people who have received the vaccine in those countries.

In the UK, data from over a million people showed that the  first doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca shots reduced the risk of hospitalisation by up to 85 percent and 94 percent, respectively.

What's more, the data also showed a significant reduction in transmission rates, with one dose reducing the risk of infection by more than 70 percent, rising to 85 percent after the second dose.

First real-world coronavirus vaccine data in Britain show decline in infections, hospitalizations after first dose

Results from the millions of vaccines administered in Israel were very similar.

It's just impossible to take this poll seriously with only 1,300+ respondents.

Maybe I qualify fir a jab as I pay tax here, even though I'm a retiree.

You are absolutely about the size of the poll. but even if it was a proper poll does anyone think it would be any different? Even at my country in the US or any other country ? I am surprised the poll was not a lot higher.

I can just see it

Question:" Should foreigners be forced to be vaccinated to Be in the US?"

Answer: " Hell Yea!!"

Question: "should the vaccine be free for foreigners"

Answer: " What?? are some kind of socialists, make them pay !! "

No problem; I am all good to pay for my own COVID vacinee.

But not that SINVOC <deleted> from China   Sinovac: Brazil results show Chinese vaccine 50.4% effective

Why would I want to put anything from China in my body who lied and covered up the severity and contagious factor of COVID.

Thanks but don't trust the Chinese on they value of their COVID vaccine.

No problem, where are the shots? More than happy to get vaccinated with whatever is handy. If something better comes along later I will get that too. I just don't understand all of the complaining. If you feel put upon, go home to the hyper-infected place you came from.

Good decision. I will be happy to get AstraZ which so many in EU don't want. They rather get ill while waiting for Pfizer.

Lol. What a Bull <deleted> waste of time article

You mean you're just now coming to the realization that NIDA polls are a bunch of BS? The ones saying the Thai people supporting this or that from Prayuth coming in over 90% didn't convince you?

It can no longer surprise me, that the Thais would like the foreigners to pay for getting vaccinated, before being allowed to come and rescue their economy.

I also think, that most Thais would like the dual pricing system to be turned up a notch, when foreign tourists starts coming back.

I am beginning to be afraid, that it may show, that the side effects of the vaccine are worse, than the symptoms of the disease.

why would somebody waste of money and time reporting such BS.... how can a poll using 1,318 people be reliable/credible

I would normally agree, but sadly (with Thais)

from what ive noticed, their biases and opinions are nearly all the same from all wrungs of society.

Ill bet the remaining 99.9999% of society  would pretty much give all the same results as what this poll reported.

It took me a long time to even fathom it could be that way, but ive been around a fair few of them in 10 years, so it cant just be coincidence.

The actual figure is more like 15%, according to ONS data.

Quote

About one in seven people in private households in England had contracted coronavirus by mid-January, according to Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates.

The figure is equivalent to 6.9 million people - 15.3% of the population.

15.3% of UK population estimated to have had coronavirus

But whether it's 96% or 85% that haven't been infected, that makes absolutely no difference to the figures I referred to, which have to do with the number of people who were infected and looks at whether they had received the vaccine, or not.
