The death of a woman from a suspected drug overdose after a Bangkok party has underscored the risks faced by Thailand’s “pretties” – models-for-hire who offer services ranging from making appearances at sales promotion gigs, modelling at motorshows and hosting “VIP” parties, and who at each turn usually entertain male clientele in some form.

The woman, Whitchayaporn Visessombut, known as Wa-Wa, was booked out to a VIP party in a Bangkok suburb late on Monday night and died at a local hospital the next day.

CCTV footage shared on local media showed two unidentified men dropping the 33-year-old at the hospital around 6am, paying 15,000 baht (about US$500) to the cashier at the emergency desk and then leaving. She was declared dead a few hours later.

They took her to the hospital and put money down for her care so there's that.

Money down was probably to ensure the cctv was serviced, but yeah, they did at least take her to the hospital.

A few weeks back there were a number of ketamine overdoses reportedly from a super~ strong batch.

Why they are called pretties ? The proper description should be hookers.

  • Popular Post

Hi-So's just believe they are above the law it appears.  This is so similar to the last death of a pretty.  Sex, drugs, and ....well it sounds like the 60's and 70's in the US.  Someone tries to make money to survive and ends up getting used and abused and then dead.  No morals for those on high, just throw some money to her family and Wai. All will be OK.  Such a tragedy.

OK then if it makes you and every one else happy let's just call them pretty hookers ???? But in any event , whatever there calling is to earn money, then just like the rest of the world it should be a lesson that drugs are not a quick fix to enhance your lifestyle

last para of the linked article says it all:

“When the clients are influential people, if there’s a case of rape, assault or even death, police officers will often give more weight to the clients who hire the pretties because they’re of higher status,” Supensri Pungkoksung, director of the Social Equality Promotion Foundation, told This Week in Asia.”

So no doubt this will be swept under the carpet

They are called "pretties" because most of them are just that. Pretty.

Not all are "hookers" despite what some want to think in their little fantasies. You know, the ones who seem to think that every woman in Thailand is "for sale" and dying for the opportunity to thrown themselves at the feet of some fat old expat whose barely squeezing by on what little pension he has.

As was detailed many times during the previous case involving a pretty turning up dead, there are different levels of "service" and the girls (usually) know beforehand what could be expected of them.

Some pretties do just modelling gigs (car shows and the like).
Some do promotional gigs (like working at the "Chang" or "Shark" booths at various events.
Some are hired to attend parties where there may be alcohol but they are only expected to mingle with the guests and look pretty (kind of like what a former First Lady used to do before hooking up with a married man who then dumped his wife for her).
In other parties, the pretties know that there could be a lot of drinking and "groping", while at other parties they may be expected to make themselves "available".

Supposedly, what is expected is known beforehand and the more that is expected, the higher the price to hire the pretties.

(I attended a party last November where the organizer had hired 50 or so "Pretties" who basically were there to mingle, sell shooters and sit with guests - getting paid for each drink they had apparently - and when the party ended, they all (or most of them) packed up and went home. There wasn't any wild, raunchy exhibitionist "go go bar" type activity or even any "coyote dancing".)

And I have no doubt at all that more than a few pretties have gone to parties thinking they'd be sipping a Breezer all night and woke up in the morning naked and with no memory of what happened.
Just as I have no doubt that more than a few men at such parties would have no hesitation at slipping something into a girl's drink, especially if she was cute but wasn't interested in any extracurricular activities.

And those men probably know that there's little chance they'll ever be accused of anything, especially if they are "connected".

Like in this case where the police have pretty much already concluded that there was no foul play. So they are saying the girl must have willingly consumed possibly lethal amounts of ecstasy, ketamine and alcohol and that there's no chance anyone spiked her drinks.
I wonder if they did an autopsy to see how many people had sex with her before she was dumped at the hospital. Probably not. That might provide evidence after all.

Didn't you know that "hi-so" actually stands for "highly sociopathic"?

The dangerous life of a "pretty" or the dangerous life of an individual who is in the drug culture.  The two can be mutually exclusive.  Hiring out for VIP parties doesn't mean you have to take ketamine and Ecstasy.  Have a few drinks and stay away from drug combinations that can kill you.
But youth - you pay your money and take your chances.  Didn't work out well for this kid.  Sad story but avoidable and has nothing to do with her employment choice.  I had to do with her choice of what to put into her body.

And the price in this instance was her life...sad

Ironic the safety zone banner on Soi Cowboy in the photo. The only danger you will probably encounter is from Thong Lor Police themselves.

Are you 100% sure she took the drugs willingly..if not keep your assumptions to yourself and don`t condemn someone who is not able to defend themselves

This "pretty" thing is getting ubiquitous. I've noticed that not only in high end liquor stores, but even in a fairly budget market like Foodland on soi 5 Sukhumvit, there are curvy babes in nice clothes in the alcohol aisles, ready to help you pay the outrageous mark-ups. They are eye candy, but their pay can't be more than a few hundred baht per day, the business couldn't afford more.

And btw, "pretty" as an an adoption from English is not bad, and I rather like it. It's no worse than "fan" for lover, or paw-paw for older (presumably respected) male, both from English.

The footage of the Lalabelle case a few months back is burned into my mind, as it was quite sickening, and played on the news over and over. She could barely stand up anymore, yet that fine, upper echelon of Thai society still wanted her to dance, and kept handing her drinks.

Could she have simply stopped and refused? Well, there goes her pay for the night. And there’s the fact these guys are connected, and tales of poor performance would surely be passed on, ruining her career of both future parties as well as conventional modeling.

And there’s the fact that her inhibitions and judgment are long gone by that point. And as others have said, she’s feeling like <deleted> about being in this situation, and is just going with the continued consumption to try forgetting about it all.

Apparently, these fine young lads like the ladies drugged out to the point of unconsciousness, to better have their way with them. Which the guy in the Lalabelle case did, before being caught on CCTV dragging her body around, unaware or ignoring the fact she was already dead.

These people truly live in another world, and it’s easy to see why when the amount of income between their families is separated by many orders of magnitude. From an early age they learn to look upon those below them as garbage. It’s a particularly pronounced problem in this country with its extreme inequality, and among the greatest now facing the entire world.

Lot of assumptions in your post.

I can remember telling a few hookers to cut back on the drinking and them becoming quite angry.

There's a lot of female drunks/alcoholics/addicts in the p4p business.

Back in the west telling a woman what to do would be considered 'abusive and controlling behaviour'.

Really, in the modern world you should let women make their own choices .........

Bit judgemental there .............

My 'little' pension 40k Vs her 'respectable' 7-11 job 9k.

I don't think 'every woman in Thailand', but I do think 'every woman who will give me the time of day'

And in 12 years I haven't been wrong.

Common sense tells us this already. Of course the life is dangerous, they sell themselves for sex - and who's going to do that sober? I've seen some pretties with absolute beasts, and that isn't going to happen unless they're wasted. Sad story, and sadly, it's a predictable outcome.

A bit harsh, could have dropped her there and left the  bill upto her ....

but certainly understand the comment.

Can't see the relevance of the soi cowboy photo.

Plenty of thai frequented places they could have used.

I wonder why they used a farang area and not a thai arwa.?

Have you ever considered that not all Thai women are prostitutes, but guess it may well reflect the company you keep.....

BS !  I have been to parties in my teens (and  older) when guys had spiked the punch so that girls  would get wasted and they could take advantsage of them. I ended up taking some girls home.  1 I left with her parents the other lived by herself and was in bad shape, couldn't walk ,I had to carry herv  to her apartment.. She  pleaded with me to stay with her as she felt like she was going to die.  I stayed on her bed  an had a pail, towel  water ice nearby. She did throw up once during the night. If I wasn't there she might have choked on her vomit  and died.  I left the next day after she woke up and she thanked me for staying with her. Next week she rewarded me for bring her home and staying with her.

Some  of the pretties get in trouble by acpting big amounts of baht for taking  a drink and not knowing whats in it. Once they start they are too f--up to make  a decision to stop.

Last time I drove past that soi of an evening it was almost completely dark.
