Popular Post webfact
Pattaya: Vaccinations point to improvements in tourism by year's end - back to normal after that! Picture: Sophon Cable TV Sophon Cable TV went to talk to their favorite source of news and comment yesterday - mayor Sontaya Khunpluem. They wanted his opinion after the Sinovac vaccine rollout started in Chonburi where 4,700 doses are being jabbed into the arms of frontline health workers. The province is one of 13 chosen. Of these jabs just 1,100 doses have been assigned to Bang Lamung district wherein Pattaya resides. Sontaya said that vaccinating the frontline workers was very important and this will be the start of creating confidence among the general population and tourists. Picture: Sophon Cable TV He noted that many countries were looking into vaccine passports that would enable countries with big tourism industries to open up their markets. He anticipated that when 65% of the population had been jabbed then the situation regarding the pandemic would improve enormously. He cited figures internationally to support this 65% threshold claim. He told the media that he expected tourism in Pattaya to improve in the fourth quarter (from October) and after that things will be well on the way to getting back to normal. tingtong
News, and hopes. The truth is in mathematics. Even if 200.000 a week get the vaccine, that is a lot longer than a year to get to the 65%.

We've been assured by leaders world-wide that the only "normal" will be the WEF's vision of a New Normal. Digital IDs, tracking passports, travel restrictions, complete loss of privacy, etc...
mikebell
Back to Normal = floods; disappearing beaches; no police; road deaths; packs of wild dogs. Really looking forward to October.

Even if 200.000 a week get the vaccine, that is a lot longer than a year to get to the 65%. The truth is in the numbers, however, your numbers are not quite correct, but not far off. Thailand has approximately 70 million population. 70,000,000 x 65% = 45,500,000 From March to the end of December is 10 months. 10 x 30 days = 300 days. 45 500 000 people / 300 days = 156, 666 people needing to be vaccinated, every single day, for 300 days straight. Miss a day, or do not vaccinate the 150,000, and the figures blow out. How many hundreds of thousands are they already behind in the first 5 days of March? There will be no tourism here until well into 2022, possibly into 2023.

It's well know that to reach herd immunity at least 65% of a population must be vaccinated. How long do you think it will take Thailand to reach that level? They shop at supermarkets and cook at home. They don't do / see the typical tourist things, most probably because they have seen and done them in the past. These long stayers live pretty much like an expat, but are here temporarily.
