Health insurance requirements to fly into Thailand

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are currently living in Thailand using our Thailand Elite visas. At some point we will want to leave the country and return. Firstly is the general opinion that at some point in the not too distant future health insurance coverage ASQ, COE, Fit to fly and Covid tests etc... will all cease to be required or at least be waived if you have been vaccinated with proof of said vaccination?

If not can someone explain what exactly I need to show Thai authorities to make it through the immigration process regarding our health insurance? I know there are other documents needed, but I am only confused about proving valid and adequate health insurance.

My wife and I both have US based Blue Cross health insurance. It covers us internationally in the case of emergencies. I have read you need to show Thailand some type of minimum of 100,000 USD coverage for Covid related treatment but that doesn't seem to be the way my insurance works?  There is a deductible but thereafter I don't believe there are upper limits related to Covid or hospital stays? If they exist I am not sure what they are. What precisely do I need from my health insurance provider to prove I have adequate coverage to reenter Thailand as it stands right now? I am not even sure what to ask for or how it should be worded?

If obtaining such a document proving sufficient coverage from my health insurance is not possible should I just buy the lowest cost Thai health insurance that's accepted prior to reentering the country or even before leaving in the first place to meet these requirements? Can Thai health insurance be bought outside of the country if it is needed?

The only insurance required to get a certificate of entry (COE) when using a Thai Elite visa is the $100,000 US covid 19 insurance valid for one year from the day you enter the country.

You can purchase it here. https://www.tipinsure.com/CovidRegional/product_detail

The COE application site has some info on it. https://coethailand.mfa.go.th/

The cost for 30 days of insurance using your link and my criteria is 4800 THB for 30 days per person. If I had no other choice I suppose I could just buy that. Are all of these extra, Covid related requirements expected to disappear after vaccination becomes more widespread? Can't see many tourists putting up with this.

If the Thai government clearly doesn't have a clue, why would you think anyone on this forum does?
