Paying in coins at a bank.

Featured Replies

I've accumulated hundreds of baht in small coins by throwing my change into a pot after shopping.

Can I pay these into my bank account?  In the UK the banks had bags you could use and scales to check the weight, but I've never seen that here.

Been here 15+ years and seen nothing to indicate anything other than hand count of coins, wife says bank will charge you a handling fee for a deposit of a large amount of coins.

As far as coins are concerned, Satang's apart, I use coins in bag to pay for my beer (2 beers = 120 Baht in my local shop) and they are always happy to accept, on occasions even ask me if I've brought coins.

Yes no problem handing them into a bank, bag them up into 100s and sometimes they weigh them or count them, sometimes they don't even bother doing that.

You can pay them in, but you will pay a fee if you have more than a few coins.

If you are in Bangkok, use them to buy BTS tickets at the ticket machines. If not, use then to buy small items from 7-Eleven.

I'll put a handful of coins in my pocket each time I take my wife to the market.  I'll usually end up buying some bananas or fruit......take out the handful of coins and ask if the vendor wants them (for cash).  They're almost always pleased.

They don't like to do it frequently, by the body language, so BIgC counter service would normally change some bags of similar coins, before I went upstairs to the bank branch.

A couple of good ideas there, thanks.

Most 7/11 accept large quantities of coins. They will want to count every coin.
