Solar station in Battambang province starts power generation

Featured Replies

The recently completed 60 mW solar station located in Battambang province’s Thma Koul district has started power generation and  been linked power to the grid, according to Electricite Du Cambodge (EDC). The station, invested in by Risen Energy Co Ltd, is among four solar projects that the Cambodian government approved in 2019.

The other three stations are a 30mW plant in Banteay Meanchey province, a 60mW solar station in Pursat province and a 20mW station in Svay Rieng province.

Victor Jona, director-general of Energy at the Ministry of Mines and Energy said this is a further step in Cambodia’s power generation being increasingly derived from mixed sources, particularly renewable ones such as solar. The three solar stations yet to come on-line are all scheduled to begin generating power this year, he said.

I really wish that reporters would learn the difference between "mW" and "MW" (only a factor of 1,000,000,000).

60mW would barely power a calculator, 60MW is a decent addition to the local power grid.

EDIT The earlier Khmer Times article on this facility got it right.
