The Thai government has contributed $100,000 in assistance to Cambodia to help improve the well-being of Cambodian migrant workers in different quarantine centres along the border. The financial assistance was handed over by the Ambassador of Thailand to Cambodia Panyarak Poolthup to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn on Friday.

According to a statement released by the Thai Embassy, Cambodian migrant workers are among Thailand’s most important economic driving forces. “The Royal Thai Government has therefore made it a policy to look after their safety and well-being, especially during the pandemic when the majority of them are still in Thailand,” it stated.

It has recorded that more than 100,000 migrant workers, however, decided to return to Cambodia in the wake of the shuttering of businesses in Thailand due to COVID-19. Ambassador Poolthup said that the well-being and safety of Cambodian migrant workers are among their priorities regardless of where they are.
