Saleng

Featured Replies

I want to buy a Saleng. I already have a motorbike so I just want to buy the add-on. Anybody know locally where I can buy one. Mityon Service on Pattaya Klang used to sell them but they came with a new motorbike attached at (if my memory's right) about 76,000 Baht and the sales part of the business has been gone for sometime anyway.

I don't  want a big one just big enough for me, my wife and granddaughter when she visits (with a roof).. As I get older my sense of balance has got worse and 3 people on a bike is not really an option anymore.

If you want to own/ride/drive a saleng then you must remove your brain first and lose all road sense. At least that seems to be a requirement from observations of salengs on the roads. IMO salengs are in top 3 of hazardous road users in Thailand and best avoided.

The problem is not the Saleng it's the idiot driving it. A well maintained Saleng has got to be safer than me wobbling on 2 wheels.

Ask your friendly neighbourhood motorbike taxi drivers, they'll know.

I bought my saleng 13 years ago, made to my specs (the saleng wide enough to accommodate a case of beer) by a small shop in Nakluea, but I doubt that they're still there. There was also a place on one of the side sois on South Pattaya Road, but I can't remember which one and he was twice the price. Only a privileged few farangs own these wonderfully practical (illegally modified, lol) vehicles, so you really need Thai local knowledge, which is where the motorbike taxi guys will come in handy.

Seem to recall seeing them being made and sold at a shop on the Railway Line Bypass Rd. Heading South, just before Soi Siam Country Club Road... (Soi Pornprapanamit).

I am in Rong Po on the way to Laem Chabang. Our local motorbike had one for sale last month.. I'll check if still there.

Have you had a look on Lazada, they seem to be reasonably priced to me, I put in sidecar to find them.

Opps, my apologies.... all those buildings there have been demolished. I ride past there several  times a week and didn't take that fact in!

There is a small tent there now?????

Yes. South of Chaiyaphreuk and almost next to the Post Office on Suk.
