Royal Bank Scotland to KTB

Recommended Posts

Whatever you decide do not sent it through RBS, last time I did (years ago) it cost me over 6,000 Baht in charges by RBS, Amex and the Thai bank system, also lost a small fortune in exchange rates.

Wise is the best option.

You need to sign in to Wise (may or may not require scanned copy of passport)

Arrange the transfer in Wise, they will tell up front what the charges are, the exchange rate used, the amount you will receive and when it will arrive. The best time to do this is midweek.

Then go to RBS and forward the money to Wise.

Hope this helps.

I've heard of Dee, Wise, XE etc but know nothing much about them.

You live in Thailand. Do you still have a residence in Scotland?

Will this be regular/repeated transfers?

If so, indeed WISE is very handy and hard to beat in overall sent/received. Needs some documents uploaded for registration.

Do you need it for immigration proof of income?

DeeMoney is just for transferring Baht to foreign country (outward).

Definitely upload of passport necessary and that's the easy part.

What they also require is proof of residence.

Might be more difficult if you only have residence in Thailand.

A letter from KTB with your name and address in Latin (English) should suffice.

Thanks, I'd be OK with 6000 baht as it's only one or transfers.

Thanks for the reply. I live in Thailand and have no residence in Scotland.

Just a couple of transfers.

I am a dual citizen Thai/British.

Do you mean that I need to prove residency in Scotland to join WISE?

Still better in your pocket than in those of the money grabbing banks, the difference in exchange rates (Wise vs Thai Bank) would probably cover Wise's fees, haven't actually done the check.

Did You manage to set it up online?

I use my RBS debit card details and there does not appear to be the normal debit card limit restriction on how much can be transferred that way. I have regularly  transferred up to 500 Pounds in any one 24 hours period.

No. Just an acceptable proof of residence.

I also don't have an address other than my Thai address and registered with WISE online.

My proof of residence was a letter from a German bank to my Thai address.
