Thai social media was in uproar after a soldier in the airforce went online to claim that hitting a motorcyclist was nothing more than "going over a snake".

Buk, the airman, was going through a red light at a speed of 130-140 kmph claimed the victim's father.

Now Amarin TV has taken up the case and published a series of lurid graphics about the incident that left eighteen year old Wisut Thawalee in hospital in Khon Kaen for nearly six weeks.

Wisut was on a motorcycle on February 10th and said he had a green light to do the U-turn. He turned right into the path of a souped up car.

He suffered facial injuries that require reconstructive surgery in the next few days. He had his leg broken in several places, dislocations, broken teeth, problems with the nerves in his eyes - he was a total mess after the collision.

He was finally allowed to go home on March 22nd.

Buk appears to have done nothing about what he did - putting his mum and dad in charge of sorting it out.

Except for that social media post that inflamed the public.

The victim's father Nikul, 47, said he couldn't work as he has to take care of his son. All he has got is 5,000 baht from the other family as an initial payment.

They said they are waiting on insurance to come through.

The father of Buk, Bunthawee, 56, said he went to the hospital to see the victim and get things rolling and he denied that his son had posted about going over a snake.

He insisted his son wasn't drunk - it was late at night and his vision was a bit blurry after working the late shift at the base.

Thaivisa notes that such cases of accidents and crimes are standard fare for Amarin TV who in their print version of the case made little mention of the police except to say they and insurance were attending to matters.

I suppose because the culprit is a member of the Armed Forces the Gendarmes are looking the other way,  same as if you are very rich as we all know

So, not drunk but with impaired vision. Which makes him still incapable of driving and not really the best candidate to be driving at well over the speed limit.

Pretty sure he was drunk and over speeding.

Not to mention that those cars are not meant to be driven at 140-150kph. You do that, you are at risk that in case of an emergency the brakes won’t keep up. These cheap Japanese cars obviously don’t have breaks capable of that speed, as they are not meant for it to begin with…

Braking saves 99.999% of accidents, and so if you are gonna speed even at 140 make sure that you have a car with proper brakes always…

And yet they are speed limited to 180km/h.

Not sure why you are  blaming the car here when the at fault party is clearly the person driving.

He wears a uniform. Nuf said.

That would apply to the vast majority of Thai people in any employment.
