Join the online gaming platform steam, https://store.steampowered.com/join/,  its free and download some free games and see which ones you like. I would suggest you play some tower of defense games. Plants verses Zombies is good tower of defense games.

Also depends on what platform you will be gaming, mobile, tablet, PC etc. Join Twitch.tv (free) many hundreds of live stream gamers to check out all manner of games, you can interact with them as well. Good luck it can be a lot of fun.

My mom never gamed but is gaming more then ever on her IPAD. So many easy games on an ipad good for a step in.

Here is the best advice, considering you are new to the vast gaming world:

 

Buy a Nintendo Switch

 

Then buy a few of its most popular games, they are extremely user friendly. They are designed so that anyone can play them and enjoy them, form a 5 year old kid, to a 40 year old nerd, to a 60 year old granny.
