The meaning of exponential growth

As a strong advocate for Covid safety, there are some voices here on TV who think I’m crying wolf too often. An OP wrote once, “Come on! What did we do before vaccinations?”

 

I didn’t reply at the time but will do so now:

 

We died, every one a personal tragedy of wives & husbands, mothers & fathers, sisters & brothers, wider family & friends.

 

We were crippled. We were disfigured. We were disabled, never able to work again.

 

So the choices we make TODAY are not about ‘the economy’—all those with enough to fill your ricebowl can weather this. And we, the people, can take care of each other.

 

It’s no longer about tourism. Military generals have TODAY made that decision for every single person working in the tourism industry, from hoteliers to busboys to jetskis.

 

Thanks for Songkran, Uncle Too. It will be a very long time before there’s any further domestic tourism & years before we see any foreigners.

 

So suck it up and develop alternatives, ones in which we can thrive again no matter how long the pandemic lasts.

 

Value lives over jobs, health over business. Govt shows again we are worth nothing! They don’t even care about our votes; they put themselves in power.

 

Vaccines? “The panel will report back to the prime minister within a month.” What’s wrong with TODAY!

 

For those who don’t yet know, exponential growth means DOUBLING every single day. Don’t get complacent & be fooled if it’s a little less. Our pal B117 is just getting started.

 

Every positive-pressure ICU bed needs 2 nurses/day. The ICU needs a respiratory therapist, a pharmacist, a physician & support staff, plus medications, plus lots of PPE. Q: How many ICU beds does Thailand have?

 

Symptoms? Viral illness can include fever, muscle aches, fatigue, headache, runny nose, sore throat, cough, loss of taste or smell, even diarrhea. If that’s you, STAY THE EFF AT HOME!

 

I hope the China-bashers here read about the ‘Spanish’ flu, which lasted three full years 1918-1920, & originated in the US. Thailand has the same bats (other than govt!) as Yunnan. While Wu-flu may be a catchy (intended) name, it could just as well be of Thai origin.

 

If C-19 was manmade & escaped, intentionally or by accident, remember the terrible chemical & biological weapons used by many countries in history, from smallpox blankets to aboriginals to mustard gas to anthrax.

 

We’re humans. We’re all in this together now, TODAY.

The way I see it: either sacrifice the economy or sacrifice public health. These Songkran travels and partial restrictions are going to hit both.

The likes of the responsible minister have such arrogance as to pronounce only days ago that we can handle the situation. They must be feeling a tad concerned at the moment. What we now see is an uncontained outbreak that is not being dealt with because the system has been overwhelmed and they have no answers. Lack of test kits & chemicals, people freely on the move across the nation, hospitals suspending operations due to infected key staff etc etc etc. Drastic action is needed but it is probably too late to prevent a gigantic nightmare ahead. And there is no one leading the rescue.

I fear you are correct , Of course we all  hope you are wrong. With no vaccine available my only choice is leave or hunker down. What is teh point of tolerating an authoritarian regime if it cannot control public health, they many tools unavailble to western democracies.

Of course as others have noted money will play a role as in all matters here. Whistleblowers, investigative journalists all know the risks.
