April 11, 20215 yr Popular Post Yesterday, before sunrise, an apprentice stuntman, with too much speed and too little blood in his alcohol, lost control of his pickup truck while entering a curve on the road leading to our village. Defying the laws of physics, instead of being pulled towards the exterior of the curve, he somehow managed to leave the road from the inside of the curve! And soon he was airborne, like James Bond in The Man With The Golden Gun. But, unlike James Bond, he didn't land safely in the rice paddy he was flying over, but instead hit head on a concrete electric pylon, which he managed to break in three pieces, cutting our village's electricity in the process and, incidentally, sending himself to meet his maker. And so began the long Songkran holidays...
April 11, 20215 yr Popular Post Nothing more dangerous than an empty road. Thankfully the great exodus piles up. Otherwise it could cost thousands of life.

I don't know how they do it but have seen many times crashing to the inside of the curve. My wife could not explain how she did it either (minor accident)

Thai all seem to think they're race drivers but once out of the straight-a-ways and into the curves they don't have a clue. The jackass who killed my daughter managed to do the same thing except he walked away unscratched.
April 12, 20215 yr Popular Post Opposite my house, had one sail through the top of a tree and land facing back the way he had come, just a metre from the front of the house he landed at. Thais have a special talent for defying the law of physics when they drive. The driver survived, explained he had been driving all day and was tired but as he was only 10 kms from home he decided to keep going. He also said that his insurance had expired just the day before. In the process he had lost his phone, and it was amusing to see several people scouring the undergrowth looking for it in the dark. Trying to call the number never occurred to them. That would have taken initiative, I suppose. I just kept quiet. I'm sure they wouldn't have appreciated a farang making them look stupid.

April 12, 20215 yr Let me guess, the driver is the son of the village head. He will get a new pickup and all will be fine again...

April 12, 20215 yr You can legislate against many things, but not stupidity. And so the process of natural selection continues, so sad they take out other people along the way.
April 12, 20215 yr This is the type of posts I have trouble clicking on the right reaction to. Brilliantly witty write up but sad nevertheless - for both the needless loss of life and the sheer stupidity. Should have gone solar, btw.

April 12, 20215 yr Probably chalked up as another covid fataliy in the books Condolances to his family

PEA is fairly organized. The pylons are usually in stock. A bit harsher might be replacing a high voltage pole. I remember a case where another idiot brought down seven(?) high voltage poles (domino effect).

I thought I understood the theory of natural selection, after reading the above, I not sure any more?
April 13, 20215 yr Yes I love the trip to Buri Ram there are a few 90 degree corners and its fun to watch the melons flat out into the braking zone slam on their brakes to slow enough to be able to turn, I watch my rear view for any fast approaches and either slow a bit or increase a bit as they usually drift in to take the corner. Will wait to see the first one jump the new concrete centre divider.

April 15, 20215 yr Thai drivers certainly do it in style, all I've managed to do is to flatten a 30mph sign in the UK.
