I would´t take that risk in Thailand.

The hospitals know how to handle it.  They have proper refrigeration and are used to handling temperature sensitive things like this.  So they can definitely do it.

 

Pfizer also lowered their super cold requirements so it's not as big a deal anymore.

But, as I said, the biggest problem is general handling.

Not the refrigeration part.
mRNA vaccin has a manual thick as a book how to handle it when thawed. The vaccin must be kept virtually immobile until injection. The slightest shake and the vaccine turns into placebo. This causes the biggest problems in Europe. You must discard the vaccine just on suspicion of mishandling and I don´t think private Thai hospitals would do that.

There should be a system for keeping track of vaccine distribution and administration so that fakes and substitutions can hopefully be spotted, probably a blockchain solution. Any vaccine maker that refuses to participate should be avoided.

Pfizer and Moderna are the best vaccines in the world at 95% efficacy

compare to Chinese Sinovac is 35.1%  

 

I fear that this may be right. The roll out of the locally produced AZ was originally supposed to start in May but now they say July.  AZ is not a vaccine producer itself and outsourced 100% of the production worldwide.  It has little expertise in overseeing vaccine production and many of the inexperienced licenses, e.g. Belgium, Australia and Japan, have had big problems ramping up production levels as they achieve much lower yields than specified initially.  So it will not come as a surprise to hear that SB cannot start the rooll out even in July and that initial quantities will be much lower than expected.  There is also the added problem that Thailand initially ordered less than 20% of the SB production with the balance slated for export to Indonesia and other SE Asian countries.  The government has not mentioned anything about SB's obligation to export the vaccine under the contract with AZ and how the orders will be prioritised. 

 

If we are right in assuming that bad news will be coming about the roll out of locally sourced AZ, then the reasons for the government caving into pressue to order from other sources will soon become obvious.

But officials are hopeful that J&J can iron out its problems and still be of use for booster shots down the line, and for immunization in other countries as the U.S. ramps up its vaccine diplomacy. "

I think vaccine diplomacy would be a good idea from the Western countries who hogged enough high quality vaccines to vaccinate their populations several times over.  The way things are going the pandemic will be swirling around poorer countries for years mutating into new variants that their vaccines can't protect them from.
