Can anyone identify this flower please?

Featured Replies

I have been given a number of these flowers. They grow from an onion like bulb whilst the stem and leaves resemble those of a daffodil. The flower as you can see is Orange, but I believe there are other colours available. My plants have been growing in shaded surrounds and have been blooming for about 6 weeks. I would like any information that might help me to grow these plants.20210424_121110.jpg.50140c059839244ed49eac637183babd.jpg20210424_121119.jpg.ec04da725793a27a070bf4dec32a97f6.jpg

This is a very rare orchid-tulip that went extinct a long time ago.

That pot looks like it's getting quite overcrowded in Bulbs...   Once those flowers have died off, await until the green fronds have all died back; and then carefully remove all the bulbs.

Put extracted bulbs into say a cardboard shoe box or bag and put away in dark for a coupla months...

(waiting for the fronds to dry back is better than simply cutting them all off

- as it will then give the Bulb to re-absorb all possible nutrients back from those green parts)

Hi

Download the app PictureThis. Assuming you have a mobile phone with camera, it can identify thousands of flowers and shrubs.

Thanks to everyone who responded, some good information. I do have plans to move the bulbs to large container(s) as I currently have 3 pots with one still in bloom.

The gf says it’s “ wan phet tit “.

We have had these for quite a while, the flowers fall off and they come back on their own without any interaction from us.

Commonly known as Amaryllis, this is a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippeastrum . The colour that you have is the one seen most commonly in Thailand, we have other colours, raised from seed, as well as bought, and they don't bloom so easily. The advice about putting them in a dark cupboard verges on superstition, this isn't Europe and these aren't tulips.

We always have a few blooming and only repot when a pot gets broken or they haven't bloomed for a year or two.

You may want to install the Plantnet app, pretty good at id-ing plants.

no doubt. it is an amaryllis. Very easy to grow and likes warm areas.

Hence the nick name I know them by, 'Christmas Lilly'

Amaryllis is not a Lilly.

I used to grow the larger bright red ones, and striped ones, each Christmas back in the uk. It was a tradition.

That pink colour seems the most common here....and I have seen there is also a variety the same colour that is all shredded up into a ball and looks like a pompom.

I said that to a girl once, it was a wasted breath.

We got 2 pots of these on the balcony.

Flowered every year for at least 5 . How did they get there ? Forget !!

We've got them too.

The bulbs multiply after flower, and you'll end up having quite a lot.

Gems like this is why I'm still a follower on TV.

Yes this is a Spring Lily and grown about the time of  early April....It is not an Amaryllis as they grow only around Christmas time and have a much thicker stem and not so fragile.

Known in Thai as khem see tit - four directions because the flowers on one stem point four ways

I think the above comments have pretty much nailed the identity of this flower, many thanks again for all the responses. Just out of interest, I stumbled upon plantnet.org which found the plant immediately, and sure enough:
Hippeastrum puniceum (Lam.) Voss - Amaryllidaceae - Barbados lily OR
Hippeastrum striatum (Lam.) H.E.Moore – Amaryllidaceae - Striped Barbados lily, take your choice.
So, thanks again.
