Randy99
Almost time to renew my health insurance in support of another year extension on my retirement visa. Last year I picked up a policy, a throw away policy from LMG Insurance. I believe it was B7000 and had a B200,000 deductible. Anyway, I recently read a list of current approved insurance providers and didn't see LMG on the list. Does anybody know who has the lowest premiums for a 65 year old, in good health who's only interested in the barest coverage and hence the lowest premium.
ubonjoe
LMG is still on this list. https://longstay.tgia.org/home/companiesoa
Popular Post Sheryl
LMG is certainly the lowest premium. But taken with the maximum deductible it provides essentially no coverage. We're all healthy until we're not...or have an accident. I was in perfect health when I crossed an empty street at a crosswalk in broad daylight only to have a motorcycle (which saw me from 200 meters away where he was stopped at a red light) come taring down and barrel into me at top speed. 3 fractures, 2 weeks hospitalization, 2 surgeries. Fortunately I had insurance that covered the >US $20k (i.e. >600,000 baht) hospital bill. And would have covered substantially more; luckily I did not have a head injury, or a punctured lung or liver but I easily could have. Plenty of cases on this board of people who thought they did not need insurance because they were perfectly healthy..and then one day, heart attack, stroke or cancer diagnosis. Can happen to anyone, any time. In fact odds are it will happen to oyu sooner or later if you stay here long enough. I get multiple PMS each year all saying in effect "I never got insurance because I was always healthy but now I have X disease/had an accident and can't afford treatment so how to do I get insurance now to pay for this?" And the answer of course is - you can't. Insurance is something you have to get while you are healthy. just something to consider. Many people opt to get a separate "real" policy for actual protection in addition to a "throwaway" policy for visa purposes. If you don't then make sure you have access to a large amount of cash quickly. 2

Indeed it provides essentially no coverage if you take it the cheapest way. But thats good for me. I have a perfect insurance which covers all unlimited. But since in my country no health insurance company is allowed to state a amout of money this perfect insurance is not accepted in Thailand. Unlimmited seems not enough. ???? So a 7000 baht worthlesss but accepted insurance is the solution.
