Do you need to do 90 day reports on covid extensions? (and other confusions from Jomtien immigration)

Background... I came into Thailand on a tourist visa, converted to a non-B and have been working in Bangkok for the last year. My permit to stay extends at the end of May and it's my intention to get a 60 day covid extension at this point.

I recently moved to Jomtien and the move happened to coincide with the date that my 90 day report was due. I therefore went to Jomtien immigration yesterday and told them I need to change address and do a 90 day report. I was told to do my change of address first, which I duly did.

On completion of the change of address, I went back to the counter at the entrance and asked for a form for my 90 day report. What I hadn't noticed was that while doing the change of address, the officer had removed the receipt for my last report from my passport. I explained to the staff at the counter that my 90 day report had been due, and they just pointed to the receipt for the change of address and said "no". I then asked when my next report would be due and they pointed to the extension of stay in my passport and said that it finished on 31 May and I would need to extend my visa.

I decided at that point just to leave it be and went home. But I am now left with a couple of questions that remain unresolved...

Firstly, at Jomtien does a change of address count as a 90 day report, essentially resetting the clock? I know this can vary from office to office.

Secondly, once I go onto covid extensions will I still be required to do 90 day reports, and will I therefore have to simply count 90 days from my change of address receipt to figure out when my next report is due?

A change of address is not equal to doing a 90 day report.

It seems they made mistake when they took the receipt for you last 90 day report out of your passport. Now you have not proof of ever doing it and Jomtien would not have record of your 90 day reports done before.

Immigration has not been enforcing 90 day reporting for those on short stay extension such as the 60 day covid 19 extension.

You may have to return to the office that issued your current extension of stay to have it cancelled before you can apply for the 60 day extension.

Why would I need to have the extension cancelled when it expires on 31st May? That seems confusing. The covid extension should simply run from the expiry of my previous extension should it not?

With regard to the 90 day report.... I guess I'll just go in 90 days from now and try and do a report. If I'm hit with the fine, I'm hit with the fine *shrug*.

That is needed for extension based upon working and it requires a letter from your employer stating the last day you will be working.

Long stay extensions are not the same as short sty extensions.

Good question orchidlady, I hadn't thought of that! I was assuming I'd have to go to Chang Wattana to cancel the extension then back to Chonburi to get the covid extension, as that's where I'm now living. But I'd certainly appreciate clarification on the matter.

does he file for the Covid extension at the office where he got original extension of stay or at his new residence in Jomtien?

He would have to cancel his extension at the office that issued it and then apply for the 60 day extension at the office in Jomtien.

Most offices will postdate the cancelation if you go to the office before the date on a termination letter.
