Today's update from the Ministry of Public Health on how Thailand is faring versus world countries and its regional peer countries with the COVID pandemic, with the charts ranked by total numbers of COVID cases since the beginning. By that measure, Thailand ranks 99th among world countries for the latest day.

 

Note -  it looks like they have an error in the second chart for Thailand's new COVID deaths reported Monday, which was 22 as correctly listed on the first chart, and not the 17 listed on the second chart, which was the number for Sunday. It looks similarly like the number of new cases on the second chart for Thailand, 2,101, is mistakenly using Sunday's figure, while the correct new case figure for Monday is 1,630. The other totals are otherwise correct.

9 males and 13 females

Median age was 65 (30-92 years)

Most deaths in Bangkok (13) and Chiang Mai (2). Other provinces had one death each: Pathum Thani, Suphanburi, Rayong, Samut Prakan, Chachoengsao, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham

It can easily escape the worst of it by not testing. They are relatively high numbers for the amount of tests performed. People keep harping on about it but it is a big issue.

Shouldn't that read, the maximum of tests conducted daily has stabilized at the limit?

 

After the songkran travel it quickly shot up from a few hundred to 2000 infections, and that is where it stayed.

 

If you use some common sense, then you know that is not possible.

However, the BMA and CCSA ramped up mass testing in BKK starting on Friday, to 3000 per day from 2000 per Day, so expect the numbers of positives to climb on Tues going thro to the end of the week.

Why to the end of the week.

Because the mass testing ramp up is only until Tuesday.

Did you check the positive cases as recorded on Mondays and Sundays over the past? I don't recall them being much different that 'in week' testing. I'm prety sure lab here are functioning every day of the week.

I believe one of the main reasons for similar daily posts is frustration, knowing how different schemes and volumes of testing could statistically guide the country forward. However, as intimated in a short post of mine yesterday, I do not see this type of large scale testing happening. The Government, I guess, have their own stratedgy. Having said that, they have just started proactive testing in my little district in Phuket so who knows.....

 

Further, I would now hope that they will use the testing resources saved to date to bolster the countries borders and push on big time with country wide vaccination.

This MoPH chart is showing the daily new COVID case tallies/trends since the beginning of April, with the red line showing the country as a whole, the blue line showing Bangkok and five adjoining provinces, and the green line showing the total of the remaining 71 provinces.

 

Remains to be seen whether the remainder of this week will show a continuing down trend, or the numbers will pop back up again. Both the country and Bangkok numbers have pretty much been yo-yoing up and down since the record highs toward last week of April. Today's new numbers aren't really marking any deeper lows than previously reached in the past couple weeks.

Sunday - I agree and it will probably be the same tomorrow as today all officials are on public holiday.

 

On 30th April and 1st May the numbers also had a large decrease for two days, it was the May Ladour day public holiday

BMA on Monday dispatched three biosafety vehicles to conduct Covid-19 tests among residents of the Din Daeng National Housing Authority community or Din Daeng Flats. The aim to test up to 1,000 persons daily using the nasal swab method.

The MoPH also updated their graphic showing the total numbers of COVID patients hospitalized in Bangkok and surrounding provinces as of Sunday, 15,243 in total including regular hospitals and alternate hospital facilities.

 

What the chart gently shows is that the volume of critical/serious condition patients in hospitals has been steadily rising since the start of the "third wave" outbreak at the beginning of April. The national number of critical cases reported Monday was a near record 1,151. The Bangkok and adjoining provinces "serious case" portion of that reached 600, or 4 percent of all COVID hospitalizations there.

Thailand found its first case of a coronavirus variant that is spreading in India and neighbouring countries, the government said on Monday.

You could be workign and have a work permit, but this does not by itself give one free or reduced price medical care.
